Re: CSX Montague Subdivision History
Are you referring to only the trackage from the north side of Muskegon up to Montague? For a time the line south of Muskegon was technically also part of the Montague Sub.

Re: New rail yard coming to Kalkaska on the GLC
These consultants are tax money parasites. How many hundreds of thousands will go to that swindler to regurgitate Ann Arbor to “up north” traffic figures, and decide there’s potential for reestablishing rail to the Straits which will require further study?

There's going to be a bigger hit for the local trucking companies that ship and store this product. P&P, CMS and some mom and pop local drivers had a lot of outbound loads as the trailers sitting outside attested to. Most likely LC Howard will be going gang busters once the new plant is done. So ho...

The switch stand is right about where the W is on the D&RGW boxcar.
And yes, a ton of pics here to keep one busy for awhile.

Re: Michigan Rail Business news
Wasn't the track Michigan National Storage is on (Godfrey Mill Spur?) jointly operated by C&O and Conrail? Wonder if Conrail ever accessed it via the C&O after the Plaster Mill Track was abandoned. Could Grand Elk be entitled to serve customers on that spur, and have an arrangement with CSX to do th...

Caught the westbound NS freight at Ypsilanti at 725am this morning, ~29 cars with a pair of SD40-2s. First time I've caught a freight in Ypsi in probly 6 or 7 years.

After American Axle bought it all that went dormant with just in time rolling down M-60 & I-94 to points east. I have a picture I took around 1995 showing a few covered hoppers inside the gate there. I guessed they were plastic pellets for American Axle but I don't know whether they did any injecti...

Re: If the PM never merged...
Perhaps PM would have taken over a shorter line to reach southward, like GTW did. A pairing of PM with Monon or DT&I may have made sense. Or eastward from Buffalo? I'm not familiar with what routes connect Buffalo with the east coast.

I’m honored AARR!
Also I found a batch of issue #10 on Conrail’s Michigan Division, which can be included with the other six for $17 total including shipping. Thanks!

Michigan Railroads magazine back issues
Some of you may recall seeing Michigan Railroads at hobby shops 20 years ago - I made it from 1994-2000 while in high school and college. I have copies of the last six issues and thought I'd offer them for sale. For $15 I'll mail all six, postage included. They're each 14 pages, except #16 which is ...

Ten minutes to, apply handbrakes, uncouple, dial dispatch, wait, wait, wait, get lined around, run north, dial dispatch, wait, wait, run south, recouple, move marker, release handbrakes. Hah, child prodigy is a little off on this hard decision. But when you think you're always right, you always are...

Yep. It was intact along Laketon at Viking Foods 1995, except the rails were severed where they crossed Laketon.AARR wrote:IIRC the original GTW line east of Muskegon (along Laketon) wasn't removed until the early 1990's although it hadn't seen service in many years.

First, the GTW. I know they at one time had a line coming across the state from Greenville, but that was torn up many years before this early 1970's map. How far out of town did the line continue. It appears there used to be a tank farm east of town. Was this the "end of the line" for the GTW line a...

Has anyone looked into the possibility of some kind of historic preservation grant?
Other than that I don't see where adequate funding would come from.
