Re: CSX Train Location Updates - September 2023

Amtrak P370-27 @ 21:06 eastward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG91.9 St Joseph, Mi. with 16 axles. IDTX engine #4610 & 3 cars. Why the baggage car? The NS and CSX don’t have any axle count requirements, do they? The Pere Marquette did one round trip with just two cars in February, so why do th...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - September 2023

Is there any way to get the train consist for Q326? Meaning, the cargo and destination of the cars on the train? Only interested parties get access to the where and what is on a particular train, such as shippers and customers and the railroad themselves. Make me feel old, why don’t you. When I was...

Per the St Joseph Bridge Tender, M326-30 was taking Sawyer siding mp CG106.4 to clear up for M327.
M326 passing 91.9 now. Has locomotives at front and rear, with 10 double stacks at the head end (10 wells=2 cars?). Puny train, but I’m at work and can’t listen to scanner. Tom can report axles.

Re: NS PTC outage yesterday

ns wasn't the only place with issues. may have been a full-on cyber attack yesterday. Yet they are claiming it wasn’t. I don’t want to accuse them of lying, but I still can’t fathom how it could be anything but a cyber attack. How can you design a mission critical system (systems!) so poorly that a...

Might need to adjust your axle math. There’s a set of intermodal well cars in there. Loaded, with one double stacked and the rest single.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - July 2023

That BNSF hopper with the Frisco logo is one of their “heritage hoppers”. The optimist in me enjoys seeing these heritage cars. The pessimist in me counters with the notion that they don’t really care about heritage; it’s all about using the predecessor names and logos in commerce so they don’t los...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - July 2023

Not sure if this was noted recently but CSX is now delivering cars to the elevator in Harlem again, just south of West Olive. No doubt this has to do with the ongoing service disruption on the Hamilton Northwestern. Neat to see Y121 going this far north again. What is the service disruption on the ...

FRA inspection trains in MI

Does anybody know how many FRA inspection trains there are, and why they seem to visit MI so often? One of them has been wandering around Michigan for the last few weeks, hitting regionals and shortlines and currently running on CSX as W001. It seems like they visit MI every year. [Edit: W001 was re...

Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up thread 2023

Probably not Amtrak's fault for the accident but it shows just how fragile the system is right now. You would think 353 could drag 365 into Chicago and find a replacement engine in Chicago for 364 but I'm speculating from 250 miles away. After the 14-hour sewage-in-the-aisles debacle last year, I w...

I’m not sure whether you saw it or were just nearby, but either way, I’m sorry. The train crews sadly have to deal with this kind of thing all the time, and it’s unfortunate you had to experience it as well.

Re: Future of the Plymouth Sub/Grand Rapids Sub

Was out and about on Saturday, driving Red Arrow Highway from Hartford to Benton Harbor. Heavy green paint markings applied to the tail and ties indicate what I assume is going to be a tie replacement project. Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up thread 2023

350 had two Chargers back to back leading and three extra cars on the rear, Amtrak business or inspection cars, including a doubledecker. Passed MP 22.5 on the Holly on CN at 2:45 pm, about 45 minutes behind schedule. What do you mean by a double decker? A Superliner? That seems strange. Maybe a Vi...
