Re: Iowa Interstate QJ's Donated
While it is unfortunate, if it is true, it is not like we couldn't see it coming. The car accident last year was likely the last straw. Nothing to see here folks, just more insurance companies raining on the parade. There was a car accident involving one of the locomotives? Or just an excursion tra...

What time does it usually get around the Wayland area? Do they come north from Elkhart on the 16th or 17th? Would like to set up somewhere in Wyoming to catch this train.Super Chief wrote:Due into Elkhart the 16th. Same as last two years. Overnite thru Illinois then Gdlk up to GR. Re: 30 Years of Amtrak's Pere Marquette
Better late than never I guess... You talking about the celebration around the 30 years of the train, or how the train performs itself? I suppose it is both!  Is this train running like a standard train? Morning departure still like normal? I would like to catch something interesting go...

Iowa Interstate QJ's Donated
Sounds like the Iowa Interstate is getting rid of the QJ's they have had for just shy of 10 years. Henry Posner, the chairmen of the Iowa Interstate has said the QJ's have became an increasing liability and a distraction to business operations. Doesn't sound like he hated having the QJ's but apparen...

Re: LS&MS Grand Rapids Division Pics
Yeah I found it in the general area of the northern edge of the building with the white roof. That is a longer distance then one might think from 44th. Its more like two miles from the Wentworth crossing. Incorrect. From the spot you are saying you found it along the ROW to where the Wentworth cros...

Re: LS&MS Grand Rapids Division Pics
Good luck. Photos of that line are pretty scarce. I'd love to see a shot of a train on the swing bridge over the Grand River near Indian Mounds Rd, but I'm afraid no old timer has a pic of that. And seeing how easy that shoreline was to access from Indian Mounds Rd, and that bridge runs north-south...

Couple shots from the gallery of the turntable. I walked around it once, with permission. Re: LS&MS Grand Rapids Division Pics
Does anyone know if a small rural station or stop used to exist by 44th street? I have a whistle post that I saved from the woods behind the wedgewood apartments. It was pulled out of the ground and broke in half. I saved the top portion and restored it, but it was located roughly a 1/4 to 1/2 mile...

Re: Return of Wabash EMD E8A #1009
The 1009 is owned my Virginia Museum of Transportation (VMT, who also owns N&W 611, 1218 and 1776). It was involved in a flood back before the Museum moved to it's current location. Word has it that when N&W 611 gets back on the road Wabash 1009 will take her place at the Museum. This was a cosmeti...

Bidding has opened for the locomotives. Bidding ends on August 8th. https://www.cn.ca/-/media/Files/About%20CN/Surplus-Assets/Locomotive-2014-Sale-Tender-EN.pdf I hope they end up at good homes and not scrapped. The paint schemes on those E units was in my opinion the best paint scheme IC ever did....

Re: Grank Elk Grand Rapids Yard
I thought the turntable that is still there was the old NYC table and it hasn't worked in years. I believe Conrail finally bolted it in position rather than repair it. The PRR's turntable was further south. Back in the late 70's you could still see part of the old NYC roundhouse on the east side of...

Who put it in? Did the PC put it in after the facilities in the downtown area were demolished? What good is a turntable with the ends bolted together?SD80MAC wrote:It's a turntable all right, still there but I would guess it hasn't moved in years. Rails are bolted on both ends.

Grank Elk Grand Rapids Yard
So I was looking at the Grand Elk yard in Grand Rapids on Google Maps the other day and I saw what looks like a turntable near the diesel shops. Is there a small turntable in the yard or is it something else? If its a turntable when was it put there?

LS&MS Grand Rapids Division Pics
So for my first post on here I am going to as about something close to home. Anybody got any pictures of trains on the old LS&MS line that ran between Grand Rapids and Otsego, the portion that is abandoned and part of the Kent Trails? I am particularly looking for anything from Allegan north to Gran...
