Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership

Sounds kind of like Lapeer Industrial---1 customer, half the line un-usable, no prospects for anything else. But--- must say the crew-- the few rare times that I saw them-- are good guys that get the job done.

Maybe, you mean, DANVILLE& MOUNT MORRIS, a small New York short line, controlled now by, IIRC, LIVONIA AVON& LAKEVILLE/WNY&P. A mostly Alco railroad.

Re: The Famous Flying Diesel Corp.

Yes, if I remember correctly, his name was Bill-- BUT-- there was a foreign student that attended Colgate University, that was covered by diplomatic immunity, that was asked to leave Colgate within a month of the wreck-- he was suspected of being the one that caused the accident. Bill knew so many pe...

Re: Traverse City Railroad Questions

Thanks for the quick reply! They used to be on the east side of Detroit, and were a small ,but well run company, but after the father passed, they split the company into concrete, and the other side was the brick,block/ building materials end of the business. Nothing lasts forever.

Re: Traverse City Railroad Questions

You TC guys--- have a question--- is there still a CORNILLIE CONCRETE plant up there? The trucks were red and yellow, but might have been bought out by someone else by now. Don't know where they were located exactly, but it was supposed to be somewhere south of the train station area .

The Famous Flying Diesel Corp.

My son had sent me a notification about a CP wreck, in Mactier,Ontario. For some reason, I saw the date, and suddenly remembered, that Sept. 27,1955, in Hamilton N.Y., 68 years ago was the first flight of the FLYING DIESEL CORPS, on the NYO&W RY. Nobody killed, nobody hurt bad, but an F UNIT was air...

Re: SD60’s stored in Saginaw

That's kind of a shame, as that might be the last SOO unit in the " correct" colors, that we will ever see.

Re: BNSF sues startup airline over name

Well, if you need to see a NP like heritage unit, look up St. CROIX RR,a shortline in Minnesota. If we wait for a heritage unit, from BNSF, it will probably be a widecab. HOHUM. And I know all about trademarks, and licensing and the rest, but it is always nice to see a billionaire get his way. Ha. Ha.

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.

As a former truck driver, I would have to say that it's more to do with how the land is zoned for use, as opposed to playing truckers against rail. Or, the size of the land needed for a given industry location.

I could be incorrect, but I thought that Ron Crowd was the first minority owner of a railroad in the U.S., with the Battenkill RR, in Washington County, New York, in 1982.

I assume that this unit is the last of the SD70's coming from UP, and will be painted in Saginaw, correct?

Re: D&M / LSRC Stone Operations

Flyash can be used as a substitute,or filler in concrete. Worked at a large Detroit concrete supplier years back, and it would sometimes be blended with a 2 or 3 bag(per yard) cement mixture that was used to fill unneeded underground tanks, rather than removing them. From what I understand, now it i...

Re: D&M / LSRC Stone Operations

According to TRAINS, Oct., 1987 the D&M gave up the"substantial, but no longer profitable" gravel traffic after the 1984 quarry season. Whether this applied to the all the other quarry traffic is not clear. It could be that it was taken over by trucks, or that some of the formerly rail hauled minera...

Yes you are correct --there used to be 3 slips at Ludington. Spent quite a few enjoyable hours there when I was
alot younger, watching them load/unload the boats.

Re: SS Badger - closed for the season

I wonder-- are those the original aprons, that were used in the C&O days to load railcars-- even though they have not taken trains across in years. Where do you get them, or make them, as that is not a standard thing to have laying around?

Re: CN Retirements

According to a recent TRAINS magazine, the DAKOTA, MISSOURI VALLEY AND WESTERN, in North Dakota has a group of SD50F and SD60F, that are in use. The head maintenance guy is from CN, and likes these locos, and may get more.
