Re: Where Is It?
This is the former Right Of Way for a spur that delivered coal to a government facility years ago. In the distance you can see a train on the mainline. The facility is gone now and a new automotive related facility exists here now. http://railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11339/5654678.jpg To...

Miller Rd. in Dearborn. If I remember correctly a Rouge Steel employee was letting a non employee run a train. Then derailed the train and took out the overpass.M.D.Bentley wrote:[/url]

Re: Coal Trains Going BYE BYE in Michigan
Thing about natural gas supplies, is that they're going up and up. Used to be a specialty, now every well captures what used to be wasted/burned off. The more oil produced, particularly in the shale formations, the more natural gas will be available. Very little worry about oil/nat gas supplies in ...

McGraw crossing CSX in Detroit. Coca-Cola on the right and Thyssen Steel behind you on the right. Although you see a bombed out factory, this spur also serves two large customers, one behind the camera, the other in the distance to the right. Located less than 6 miles from milineamtrak's location. h...

The former Detroit Terminal Railroad crossing over the Lodge freeway between Oakman and Linwood. This is over a multi lane highway in the greater Detroit area. Interesting is that this abandonment looks like crap on the top side, but from the highway it looks almost new. http://i1106.photobucket.com...

Those frames make in Kentucky are for the Ford F-150 pick-up truck. I think Ford and the railroad had a disagreement so Ford says we don't need you and went to truck. Gusss the railroads have too much business so they can turn away businees now. Elizabeth Town, KY. Serviced by the P&L. I didn't kno...

No it's all closed up. The head quarters has been moved to New York I believe and the layout was donated and moved to a historical society in the northeast somewhere.

Re: Rodgers City Coal Plant Finished
Where's all that "clean" coal technology that the coal industry promised? The technology is there and is ready to go, but thanks to the white house and EPA you won't see much of it being built. Just like the start of this thread you won't see any new air permits issued for coal plants for quite a w...

I don't know about your first question about train 38e. But your second question about the coke that comes in on 414 and 415 I have seen these many times. First when you say Fordson yard I am assuming you mean the yard behind Double Eagle on Miller Rd.? I have seen them come over on the Junction yar...

Re: Getting into G Scale- Welcome to the LGC&W
1/29th scale is 3x bigger than HO and was designed so when you wanted to scale up HO Scale plans it was easier. And this if for kids enjoyment at train shows as well as to promote garden railroading and large scale trains to the public. Supposedly there is the Lakeshore Garden Railroad Club, based ...

Re: End of Coal Power Plants? EPA Proposes New Rules
Yes, but it's EXTREMELY inefficient. Pipelines move things constantly, while trains are one block at a time... They should use trains just because trains are cooler than pipelines. Fine, you pay for the extra billions per year.... Trust me with the EPA taking coal out of the mix we will all be payi...

Re: Lansing Industrial Loco
Well that is a big waste. They will still burn coal to make electricity as they do now. I assume that now they bleed steam off the turbines for the send out steam, that way you get dual use from the steam (and coal). So in the future they will burn natural gas to just make send out steam meanwhile ...

The HB plant is a peaking plant and from what I have heard it is on the list to be mothballed or shutdown completely. As for the Dow plant in HB is has it's own gas fired power plant. It would be nice to see something built back in town but until I read the article I thought maybe they were talking ...

I believe it's the Detroit Coke Corp. that is in the picture. The round structure in the picture looks like the coal storage/ reclaim area for the plant.

I have a question about a customer on this line. I work next to Rougemere and have been all around the tracks in the area, but there is one that I have seen using bing maps that I never knew it was there. It is where the rouge river and the shortcut canal come together right behind Zug Island. They ...
