CF&E Van Wert

I was in Van Wert yesterday running an errand and I noticed some tank cars sitting at a factory on the south side off of the former Cincinnati Northern track, I thought I had previously read where only 1 facility toward the end of the track was receiving covered hoppers. I was wondering if there has...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

Has there been any traffic running across the line lately, I've not seen anything lately, was wondering if the trackwork had any impact or if I'm just not catching the line at the right time.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

Looks like thing are really progressing on the track rehab west of Defiance, while I haven't followed the whole line, I've noticed the segment that I cross on my way to/from work everyday, the track looks pretty level and I noticed that their are tie plates laying in between the rail.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

I was out with the wife today on a day trip, noticed that they had ties laid out along the line just to the west of Defiance, there were also crews out working on a Sunday, never got a chance to get any pics, will try tomorrow if I get the chance

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

That's what I thought as well, maybe this is some else being done that is not part of the grant for the work between Defiance-Woodburn.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

Was wondering if they were getting ready to start work west of Defiance, notice that work is being done between Napoleon and Defiance, including what looked like a set of lights(gates?) being installed in Okolona. Looked like ties being replaced as well (sorry I didn't get any pics)

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

I've noticed that they have been clearing quite a bit of brush and trees on the line west of Defiance. Wonder if this has something to do with the project on the line west of Defiance?

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

Has anyone noticed the switch that was put in just to the east of Adams Ridge road toward Jewell? Could ND&W be putting in a siding along there? Having looked at it from a distance, it looks like maybe something that could tie into the existing siding in Jewell or is it something related to the grai...

Re: If the Rails Were Still There

OH is fine. I have a paper railroad called Detroit, Lima & Cincinnati after the old DT&I. But you can go first :) . Is this topic specific to Michigan, I'm from Ohio and there are a couple of lines that I wonder what could have been if the rails where still there. You have already beat me to the pu...

Has anyone noticed the switch they put in at Defiance, it is right next to the CSX diamond in the northeast quadrant. The switch is facing toward the diamond, was wondering what Pioneer has going on.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

I was heading to Toledo on Sat, I didn't see any tank cars east of the 24 crossing, but I saw 4-5 hoppers and a couple of box cars as well.

Thanks for the info, was curious as the line runs through a pretty crowded area with the beach and all. Do they run at all on Sunday?

St Joseph

Was in the St Joseph/Holland Michigan area over the weekend. Went to Silver Beach on Sunday. I saw the rail line that runs through the area and a swing bridge that crosses the river there. I was curious what railroad is this and how often do they run? I noticed the swing bridge was open, but the rai...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

I haven't been on the forum for a while, was wondering what trackwork is being done on the NDW. I noticed a lot of work crews on the line east of Defiance and a lot of ties dropped west of Defiance.
