Re: Single-tracking NS in Mansfield OH
On Google Maps, appears there were sections of triple-track between Loudonville/Perrysville and up to Lucas. Quite a wide ROW going down to a single line.

Single-tracking NS in Mansfield OH
Crossing Rt 13 in north Mansfield this past weekend, I noticed that the NS line (Pennsylvania) has been single-tracked at the crossing, and the Pennsylvania position light signal has been removed on one side, so would seem to be permanent. This is right where the old B&O diamond is (now Ashland Rail...

Re: Two abandoned Columbus rail spurs
My recollection is that the northernmost spur crossing Edgehill had been removed. Also, the spur that continued south and crossed Third Avenue was there but ended right at Third and no longer crossed it. At some point they pulled the rails, I would bet before 2000. The topo map below (1982) shows th...

Wow, could this really happen?
"Moreover, the exec team crafted a plan to upgrade all of Pioneer’s track to a Class I standard. Work is progressing and might take three to five years to complete at all the short lines, says Yeros."

Re: Two abandoned Columbus rail spurs
You can also see on Google Maps where the spur continued after Columbus Builder Supply and curved between Norton/Holly and Holly/Oxley. As midland mentioned, these were a lot more visible in the early 90s as they had been recently removed.

Re: PRR Carrothers Secondary
The 1918 Ohio rail map should answer some of these questions. PRR lines are red in color on this map. The Toledo breakout shows considerable detail. Overall this is a great resource when you find an abandoned line around the state.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
If there was any serious potential for business in LC, NDW could sell that little piece to I&O and I&O puts in a switch in place of the diamond to serve LC off their line. Overall this is a good decision for more rehab on the line, and improved safety on US 6/24. If they had decided to build an over...

Re: NS Peavine talk
There have been far worse situations (in my opinion), such as the old Pennsylvania west of Columbus OH, where a viable railroad was wiped off the map in short order. This line has been effectively rail banked by a corporation, for possible use, that didn't materialize, and they gave it 20 years. Whe...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Campbell's couldn't reliably get cars from GTW, so they invested in a trucking facility in the mid-80s and stopped using rail. You used to be able to see a huge line of boxcars for Campbells if you took one of the county roads into Napoleon. GTW then ripped out that last section of the "old" DT&I (n...
