Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
Why build a run around siding there when there is already one in Grawn just a few miles south? Presently there is a rail-bike company using the trackage from the run around in Grawn to the US37 bridge (before Beitner rd.). That track has not been maintained since the last train out in the mid teens...

Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
Why build a run around siding there when there is already one in Grawn just a few miles south? Tracks are "severed" south of beacon so you can't get there. Yes easy fix but they are still cut to separate the railroad from the rail bikes for now. They reconnected the severed tracks (aka put the stic...

They have 40' and 53' on the property also- depends on what they are building them into.

Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
Why build a run around siding there when there is already one in Grawn just a few miles south? I don’t know much about the trackage in Traverse City, so forgive my ignorance, but isn’t there one in TC as well? There are 3- one in Williamsburg (10 miles north), 1 about 2 miles north in Boardman yard...

Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
This would be awesome as well. Sounds like GLC is putting good effort on the TC area now. Any time line for either of these to come online (the container place seems like a done deal, so maybe before too long)? Grawn potential shipper I assume still in the "maybe" stage.

Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
Seems common sense to put a runaround siding there, which would help for Beacon also. But darn, we're gonna see double stack container trains (I assume only a few cars here and there) up to TC???? Now that's going to be a sight behind those GLC GP-35's! And cool, building materials down the road- gl...

They were trailers people lived in for years. They were grandfathered in.

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - March 2024
3 empties went up, 1 came down. Did you see any lumber come up? If not, it's been almost 2 months since GLC has taken anything to Amerhart. Which of course is concerning. I don't believe there was any lumber. There wasn't any in Tufford when I saw the gons. Thanks! At least there appears to be a ne...

Re: Hamilton Northwestern Railroad Co.
I wonder what the range is on a transload site such as this. 15-20 miles? I thought I read somewhere‘s on RailRoadFan.com that the WMI was transloading apples that were transported up to Traverse City Michigan for Gogo Squeez. So who knows what the actual range on a transload site could be. Here’s ...

Re: New siding-business in Traverse City???
It sure looks like one, and Britten is a large company that sprawls 1/4 to 1/2 mile down to Beacon. The new building just completed (as in built, not finished inside yet). They have stacks of new shipping containers on the property (you can see some of them in the background in KC's photos). Not sur...

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - March 2024
I saw GLC switching Beacon in TC about 2:30pm from seat 2A at about 3,500ft while taking off. Unfortunately the Delta captain didn't circle around for a good look (the #1 on time airline had to continue climbing to cruise altitude), but there were two locomotives and 5 gondolas. 3 empties went up, ...

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - March 2024
GLC just arrived into TC. Can hear them near the depot, no visual.

Re: Great Lakes Central Updates January 2024
GLC took the 4 gons that were in Boardman yard in TC plus the gon that was on the old Gray Iron spur back south with them last night. So with the Beacon loads and Amerhart empties, at least a 10 car train leaving TC last night.
