Re: HESR 3865 HO model - Air Horn and Ditch lights ?
Thank You David! Based on your input and looking at this photo on RR picture archives, I'm thinking it's a K5 R24, as it looks like from this view it's got the 3 forward chimes and 2 rearward. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=827508 Really appreciate the insight there in getting ...

Nope that wasn't me. I haven't seen the Durand layout since I was a teenager sadly and was never a member of or affiliated at all with that group. Would like to make it up there again and check it out though.

HESR 3865 HO model - Air Horn and Ditch lights ?
Hi Everyone I had kinda tabled my CM U23 project due to a combo of life happening and the fact that I had found one of the Atlas factory decorated units. As an easier project, I picked up one of the Athearn (Roundhouse I think) HESR GP38-2's in the Rail America Scheme that they ran within the last c...

Re: Conrail Shared Assets Trackage
The line crossing the Holly sub just west of 75 is the former Detroit Terminal mainline. This is essentially the eastern end of the referenced Highland Park Industrial track on the Knorek website. The Detroit Terminal and Union Belt were, in a way, the competing terminal railroads in Detroit. Union ...

Depending on how long you are staying, bring a bicycle if you can. The GAP (Great Alleghany Passage) which is a rail trail from Pittsburgh to Cumberland mostly along the old Western Maryland and I think the P&LE (alphabet route) is right there and is one of the best in the country. The entire route ...

Re: Custom Decals and Painted Locomotive Information
Try using a pencil eraser first - that will be the least likely to damage the paint underneath assuming it works. Sometimes it works wonders, other times it does nothing at all. If that fails, you can try various solvents but will run the risk of damaging the paint. I'd try MICRO SOL or some sort of...

Re: Jackson, early 90s
Look up Dan Cluley on youtube. He's got some great vids of stuff in the 90's including some conrail around Jackson (and Lansing) - most of his vids also show at least a part of the train, so if your looking for info for model RRing purposes his vids definitely help for that. Another option that I've...

Re: Suez Canal and what it means to shipping.
All the OEM's are getting hit by the chip issues. FCA just knocked out production in a handful of plants yesterday for a few weeks, and a few days ago GM extended shutdowns at several and even pulled a truck plant (Wentzville MO, on the NS former Wabash- builds the Colorado/Canyon) down for a week o...

Re: Utica depot location?
To add - The Utica depot was off of Greeley street - right behind St Lawrence Church/school and across the tracks from what is now Shuert (the current northern most active customer on the Sterling Secondary/former Bay City Branch). There was a model railroad club located in the depot in the 70's / (...

Re: LSRC/CSX between Plymouth and Wixom
last I observed (fall of 2020) it seemed like CSX was usually running in the afternoon/evenings - not sure if they originate in Plymouth, Rougemere, or ??? but it seemed reasonably consistent that they'd be in Wixom between 4-9pm. LSRC to my knowledge goes on duty in early morning to run north from ...

What Horn is used on the CMGN U23's - HO scale quarantine project
Quick ish ? Picked up an Atlas "red box" HO U23B in Mopac colors and with the decals by circus city I think it'd make a fun project since my travels, both work and personal, have been abbreviated this year. Figured this would make a good way of getting back into the hobby- so this would be my first ...

Re: Railfanning the outskirts of Detroit
You mention outskirts of Detroit and interested in CN, besides Delray- which would be the best in terms of sheer #s another vote for Wyandotte/Trenton- shoreline/flatrock subs and the NS detroit line. Besides those, what about Port Huron ? Depending on where you're at in the Detroit area, or where y...

They went to Kalkaska on Wednesday- switched Selma yard, and then switched the propane ? Dealer at the end of the former PRR yard behind the old shell gas station, and then proceeded to Walton Jct, picked up some more cars, and then went up to Kalkaska and switched that out- started heading south ar...

Re: CSX, CN and where to find odd railcars...
Franklin Park is one of my favorite spots, if only for the previous likelihood of getting a Soo Line or DME/ICE unit rolling through, plus I think Indiana Railroad still runs up there now and again. Not sure how that's changed though. Not the best place to pull up the lawnchair though if it's sheer ...

2nd vote for Central hobbies if you can make it over there. Very nice staff and it's the type of place that there seems to be fewer and fewer of- very much a throwback hobby store that reminds me of the places my Dad and I would go in as a kid. Pretty sure there's bus access too it. Awesome hobby sh...

GRE ended up taking 11 cars yesterday to Kings-all covered hoppers- -attached is shot of the entire train (light was not on my side) Once they came back (Light), they moved the other cut by the engine house, left the CH for Amway? on the interchange track, and then parked it for the day. Thought tha...
