What a terrible loss for the covered bridge and all the other destroyed places in New England.
Interesting video here from New Jersey.

Re: Fatal Accident on California Zephyr
Another serious derailment to the Zephyr Friday in western Nebraska. The train struck construction equipment being used to tear down a grain elevator along the mainline, causing the engines and first four cars to derail and land on there sides. 20 people went to the hospital for non-serious injurie...

I dunno but that's a great shot Mike. The sky is dramatic. It would be even more picture perfect without the wires on the right though for your own collection.

Re: The Chief's dock, St. Ignace
Does the City of Milwaukee dock in Manistee have an apron? I think it would help tell the story of carferries by having an apron at the site. Too bad the apron at St. Ignace collapsed though....it clearly survived many many winters with no maintenance. No apron here. Both aprons are still in place ...

Re: Soo Locks Engineer Days
Did you guys make it up there? Plenty of vessel traffic. That's the first I've known of the hydroelectric plant being open for tours. One of busiest days in recent memory provides plenty of traffic for BoatNerds 6/25 - Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - Engineer's Day 2011 Friday was the busiest day for vess...

Thanks for those comments. The opportunity for the light shining above the lighthouse was only about a second since the boat was moving behind it, glad it turned out.

Re: Heading to Omena this weekend
It's probably more that I didn't know where Omena was until I just checked google maps...maybe no one really knew where you were going and didn't bother to check that it's near Traverse City. Gotta guess Manistee will be dead on a Sunday for your return trip south, as should Ludington, unless MQT's...

Thanks guys for the comments.
That was one of those hazy sunsets where you could actually look at the sun and not be blinded. Wouldn't mind having more of them kind. I like your idea.J T wrote:I like your boat shots, but this sunset shot is a winner! You need to print this one up and sell it.

Great video and pictures, especially the first shot. Your other B&LE chase was awesome too, I just didn't get around to commenting on the thread.

Must be the KC-135 Stratotanker as it looks like the refueling boom is tucked up behind the tail. Cool shot.

Some crazy pictures there csxt4617. Re: NS bridge problem South Chicago?
Thanks GP30M. I forgot you could see the remains of the B&O bridge there so I thought maybe the EJ&E/CN bridge was counted to get the NS bridge to be number 5. If you look at Google Maps in that area, either Calumet or Manitowoc are at KCBX and the St. Marys Challenger is down by 106th Street. Port ...

NS bridge problem South Chicago?
Question over on the boat forum that maybe someone knows here. Anyone have any information on what happened to the NS-5 bridge on the Calumet River? It has been broke since late Thursday night and is still down as of today. The Lee A. Tregurtha arrived at KCBX Thursday morning and is still here, as ...

Sunday Morning Water and Rail Activity
4/24/11. Was Easter Morning when Manitowoc brought coal for Morton Salt. There's a 24 minute video in two parts showing Manitowoc unloading and leaving town along with MQT Rail switching boxcars from PCA, then returning to the yard later in the afternoon from Martin Marietta. Way easier putting a vi...
