Re: Clinton township derailment.

Got down there a little after 10:00 am and everything was back on the track and Hulcher was packing up. The offending autorack is at the team track platform in Mt.Clemens and the Hulcher equipment looks like they're going to overnight there at the parking lot. The consist continued on to Port Huron ...

Should be the same age as the bins next to it. I've got
photos of it being there back as far as 1983.

Re: Train strikes Allman biopic film crew

http://www.dollygrippery.net/2014/02/sarah.html Of course the full story won't be out until the investigation is over. Sounds like: Production company hires crew (in the industry these are all freelancers and 'production companies' appear and disappear overnight.) Production company tells crew they...

Re: Color profiles in Photoshop for web viewing

I've never notice any trouble with Flickr changing the images. Before I save a jpg for the web the last step in photoshop is Edit>Convert to Profile> and set the destination space to 'sRGB IEC61966-2.1' this essentially sets the color profile of your image to a neutral value and should keep any webs...

Youch Hogger, that's a lot of stuff to get rid of. I've got perhaps 5% of what you have and the cleaning out is slooooow. (maybe I should have an open house... :P ) Keeping the HO but moving from the 70's to 1949. Call me a contrarian but I'm more interested in seeing what your On30 will be all abou...

Not a Polar Bear, February 1st, Durand

I've got the first off from the store and am going
To be in Durand from sun up to sundown. If
You feel like coming out to do so. If you don't
That's OK to. 8) The first day of February seems
Like a good time to freeze my toes off.

Re: Prime Lens for Railfanning?

Starting in 83 and for years thereafter most of my shots were taken with the 50mm f2.0 that was the then 'kit' lens on most cameras. My only film camera right now is a Nikon N80 with a 50mm f1.8 D. It feels very natural for me to shoot with this lens. A 35mm would be the equivalent lens on your D310...

Re: What is the coolest abandoned equipment you have seen

On the north side of the LS&I Presque Isle yard in 85 and again in 87 there was a dead line of
old LS&I consolidations. In 87 I went down the line and took several shots. Now I've got to
dig them out...

Rene Gourley has been using some 3d printing for his p87 Canada Atlantic models. Here's a page on his blog showing some of the work. http://www.proto87.org/d/?q=blog&page=3 Here's a blog I've been following where he's using 3d printing for some unique midwestern interurban cars. http://interurban.bl...

Re: Which way to jump?

Stop it. Billboards have huge viewing distances and are usually printed with a 6 or 7 line screen. 10 dpi is enough resolution for most purposes. The biggest billboards will run about a 3 megapixel file. Adding more won't change the quality from a normal viewing distance. They went digital when the ...

Re: Which way to jump?

Blech! So far I've done nothing. I guess I was just frustrated about the price of a lens that I don't really need anyway. Sometimes I think I can substitute gear for creativity and reality slaps me down! :P I need less stuff, not more. One good film body and lens plus one good digital superzoom shou...

Which way to jump?

Ok, since the number of full-frame lenes for Pentax is dried up and the out-of-production aftermarket prices are getting silly I guess it's time for me to go with one of the big boys. The question: Has anyone here used both Nikon and Canon gear and can say why you went with one over the other? Right...
