Re: Michigan Grades
1-1.3% Comstock Park hill to between 9-10 mile road to Mill Creek on Marquette Rail Andy ^ That’s wayyyy north. I am talking about exactly at West River Drive and 4 Mile Road. I’ll take 1% for the grade if it’s the same stretch of hill. The grade I was referring to starts at Mill creek (West River)...

Re: Upper Peninsula Railroading
In a month or so, I will be heading back to upper Michigan (mostly Marquette) to visit some friends that live up there. I know this has been discussed years ago in a different thread, but I wanna know how accurate it is in 2023. I also have not been up to the U.P in about three years. Can someone g...

Re: LS&I U Boats
3000, 3009, 3073 are the last three remaining operating units. 3074 had catastrophic failure last summer and is sitting on the deadline. The greens haven’t been used much at all this year, due to slow shipping season and will be sidelined when the new 4400's show up later this year. My guess is two ...

Re: MQT North End 10-26-2021
CSX and MQT do not block trains for each other. MQT takes everything north to Baldwin typically, where the Bald Eagle job is usually the one to break the train down into Ludington, Manistee and GR Sub Local cuts. The GR Sub Local traffic is the tacked on the front of the next southbound train to be...

2104 is in Manistee currently getting traction motors replaced. Not sure what’s running GR in the meanwhile.

Re: Pre-1982 C&O Photos
Here is a video of a Chessie System train headed thru Alden, MI around the time frame. It looks to be shot from Lake Street in Alden . At 34 second in, it looks to be a 1981/82 Chevrolet Caprice. at 44 seconds, I can make out the squarebody, but it has the circle headlights which was last used in 79...

Re: KBE Connecting
My recollection is that one of the principals in the KBEC venture was originally a motorman for the DSR, then a bus driver after streetcar operations were terminated. How this qualified him to be a shortline railroad owner/operator is unclear to me. Perhaps one of the other company officers knew so...

Re: Amway Spur - Cascade Township - Kent County
Tom- Do you know who owns the property from Patterson East, Amway? Also, was it in the works to extend past Kraft for future development?
Very interesting that KB&E had interest. Do you know where the proposed ROW would have been? M-6 area perhaps or just due west of Steelcase?

Re: ADBF Ownership Change
Lol that's comical. What would be the point of making the Adrian line 25 mph? The Jail is in rough shape it'll take millions to get it up to 25 mph. What facts do you have that this project would costs millions? The whole railroad is 10 mph, with some sections down to 5 mph. There's roughly 3250 ti...

Update: LS&I has had security at the Dead River Bridge. If you're planning to adventure up for colors, stay on public property. The bridge and surround area of the bridge is all private property and any access to the bridge is trespassing. Second, railfans from out of state had an incident which a t...

Re: CN Yooper Operations
Does anyone know the operational plan for the Trout Lake - Munising line, one control does get handed over? I assume the new operator will operate from Trout Lake. It looks like the interchange will be at the small yard on the CN mainline, which is where the current interchange between CN trains ha...
