Re: EJ&E Heritage Unit
The Air Line was taken out 1937. Traveling M-60 you can see the roadbed real well. When you get to AL Jones road west of Three Rivers you are on the ROW eastbound into town. At that same road westbound is where the original roadbed is observed under the power lines. MDOT used the actual roadbed east...

Re: EJ&E Heritage Unit
Niles was a busy place. The line from Cassopolis followed M-60 then curved northwest into the yard, you had the Notre Dame branch which ran down a street behind the Taco Bell and joined the main at the depot ( the Amtrak maintence building now). Also the Big 4 from Goshen thru Granger going under th...

Just for info, back by the silos is where the Jackson to Niles line crossed. Just east of Three Rivers was where they diverted to Elkhart later.

You can thank NYC for the good track to Mackinac thru Gaylord. Mainline 135# rail and ballasted. They did do the primary routes to that standard.

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
Well the A2TC group (passenger group) will benefit too from the rail maintenance. The one thread almost makes one wonder if the casino out by Williamsburg is going to have a loading area too. Don't the tracks go on the backside of their parking lot? It's win win for freight and passenger if God forb...

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
Just remember TC MAN you and I are paying for the new Manistee River bridge and rail work in the TC area. LSRC has an impressive sales lady who did wonders upon Grand Elks start-up in Kalamazoo back in 2009. LSRC has benefitted from her and doesn't have MDOT paying for their ROW maintenance. Yes the...

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC
This whole start-up proposal begs some questions. Is SRI involved with this project even remotely? Were the 2 Amtrak domes bought to supplement this consist? Would this be a revenue stream since the embezzlement, no polar express etc? Are the MDOT Burlington cars involved? Just what equipment did th...

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC
Where you saw the bike rack in Petoskey sections of rail were removed and a sign stated and was in the middle of the roadbed "End of MDOT ownership." The city wanted the park space but not in front of the depot to the bumping post.

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC
Petoskey took the tracks out downtown couldn't wait to call it a green space. You'll end up stopping out at the Salvation Army store as the bridge at Bear River needs work. Sorry but the A2TC committee hasn't kept up with reality?

Sunday night as we worked an accident on 131, a 3 unit GDLK train went by southbound. The red HCLX unit was leading what appeared to be 2 other 4 axle units. If 1 was 3534 then she got out of town at midnight. This was at CP Park.

Once a paper mill closes now it usually is the end of the line for it. Mlive showing considerable damage to trees and south wall of depot collapsing on the depot grounds at Pennsylvania Square in downtown Petosky. Storms that rolled thru that area last night and today. Its an attorneys office of late. Hope the Perry Hotel fared better across the street.
