Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread

Saw my first of the AC44 rebuilds today. Pretty sharp looking while fresh.

The Huntsville Branch Railroad/Lincoln County Railroad

The Huntsville Branch Railroad (HSVR) is a former NC&StL line running 64 miles from an interchange with CSX at Decherd, TN to the Tennessee River at Hobbs Island, Alabama. The Seaboard System applied to abandon the stretch between Elora, TN and Huntsville, AL in 1984 due to a lack of online traffic,...

West Georgia and Alabama Railroad

NOTE - This scenario assumes the High Point and Rome/Alabama, Georgia Coast, and Western railroads were never formed and that the CSX Birmingham to Atlanta main was pulled up in the late 1980s, as it was in real life. The West Georgia and Alabama railroad was formed in 1977 to operate the Southern R...

Alabama, Georgia Coast, and Western Railroad

I know I haven't posted anything here in years, but after some railroad exploration in western Alabama I got an idea... An Hour in Philip, SD - 9/10/2007

The weather here has been pretty lousy today and I'm off work for the holiday, so I decided I'd go through and start scanning some slides. Found one box, and looking at the subjects, I'm really glad I did. The date was September 10, 2007. Less than a week earlier, it was announced that Canadian Paci...

Re: FEC Consists

I've shot some locomotives on the FEC back to back before but it does seem to be a rare occurrence. They have turning facilities (wye at Bowden and a loop at Hialeah) at each end IIRC. I suspect that they do in case of an over the road failure - they can set out the lead locomotive and still not hav...

Re: Any DM&IR engines out there?

As far as DMIR painted locomotives out there that aren't on the CN go, the Pierre Farmer's Elevator association in Pierre, SD had LTEX 310, a SD-M in DMIR paint, or at least it was as of July, 2015. I doubt it's been painted since then.

Golden Isles and Western Railroad

The Golden Isles and Western Railroad is a 182 mile railroad running from Macon, GA to the Port of Brunswick at Brunswick, GA. The railroad was formed in 2001 when Norfolk Southern was making cuts to their mileage, and in this version of history, the Brunswick line was sold off to a group of investo...

Re: Railpictures.net Challenge Part Trois

Glad to see that some people made it. I was enjoying it while I lasted, but school ended up catching up with me, had three midterms in one week and never got back in. Maybe I'll succeed in the future.

Re: Camera hates night photography (HELP)

Shooting at night is not easy, especially with a point and shoot camera. To get decent night shots, you need one of two things - a stopped train or your own source of light (which has to be very bright and last a very short period of time). The easiest option would be to set your camera up on a trip...

Re: ABS Signal System

Thanks for the input everyone - I had just suggested ISS because it looked like they had most of the stuff necessary, but some further research shows that Digitrax has basically all the hardware I need and Oregon Rail Supply has the style of signals I'm looking for. And James, even though I said I ...
