Re: The return of gypsum near Alabaster for Lake State.

Hasn't some of the state and federal money for track improvements been directed to that line?

Re: Amtrak issues

Going by the videos posted, the Bluewater always runs with power on both ends. Not sure why the Pontiac to Chicago trains have a different arrangement.

Eclipse Train?

I haven't seen any reports of this but I was told that there was a short train consisting of a CSX unit and 2 passenger cars spotted zipping down the CSX main parallel to US-24 (Telegraph Rd) southbound towards the zone of totality just minutes before the total eclipse was to reach the Toledo area. ...

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership

MDOT announced it's Michigan Rail Enhancement Program grants, yesterday, and included $3,895,208 (towards a $7,082,197 project) for ADBF for general upgrades including rail, tie, ballast replacement, track surfacing, and yard improvements. I'm curious about whether anyone knows of where this is goi...

Re: MMRR to cease operations in 2025?

I think that is an old number that included cars from Dow and Karn-Weadoak. Fair point - But even if you back out all the coal traffic and 50% of the "chemicals and plastic" traffic, their numbers are still above any of the other reporting shortlines. Also, they serve a number of the largest elevat...

Re: MMRR to cease operations in 2025?

I can't speak to the number of trains on that part of their system. But by reported car loads, they are tops amongst the shortlines in Michigan with well over 30,000 carloads per year.

Re: INE SD70M's

Of all the railroads, Indiana Northeastern is one where you don't have to rely on second-hand information. The General Manager of the railroad and several crew members regularly post and comment in the "Fan Community" Facebook group. If there's information that can be shared, I'm sure they would qui...

Can't imagine there's much of a market for these units unless some tourist/museum line was looking for a unit with a specific heritage.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread

ND&W was awarded another CRISI grant for the sections of the line between Defiance and Napoleon minus 3 miles on either side of Jewell that was already upgraded. This is intended to bring the remainder of the line up to Class 1 standards. I'm including the description that was in the 2022 grant appl...

The funding is from the 2022 budget but the projects were just announced. There's a whole grant application process that has to be completed before these projects are selected and ultimately funded.
