Re: Plymouth Sub Grain Operations Q1 2024

Interesting info but a pair of grain trains every 10 days doesn't sound like much. Does anyone know if this is more or fewer of these than they used to run?

Re: AA/DTI Train Symbols

Thanks for all the interesting info guys (esp. C&O dispatcher), I grew up in the 70s along the DTI (Dearborn Branch in Taylor) and often visited the aunt and uncle who lived in Carleton back then and saw lots of DTI and Chessie action. Sure miss those busy and colorful days...

there hasn't been any recent coke trains to gary from rouge there have been inbound blocks of coke cars periodically from gary that come in on a492 and then south on L508 Just to clarify, there is no coke that comes specifically from USS Gary since that is a different company than Rouge owner Cliff...

Re: Conrail Shared Assets Trackage

The line crossing the Holly sub just west of 75 is the former Detroit Terminal mainline. This is essentially the eastern end of the referenced Highland Park Industrial track on the Knorek website. The Detroit Terminal and Union Belt were, in a way, the competing terminal railroads in Detroit. Anywh...

Re: Toledo Terminal Remains and area questions.

Off the top of my head, NYC had Stanley, Whitmore Yard just north of the TT crossing, and Oakdale Yard at the connection with the Chicago Line. PRR had its Outer Yard also just north of the TT in Walbridge (running about 20 trains a day up to PC merger) on their Toledo Branch, and the C&O of course ...

You’re not going to see many. Yeah, not like the halcyon days of the mid- to late-70s. At least 14-16 on the DT&I, 20-25 on the Chessie and then there was a period (maybe a year or so) when the newly-formed CR ran all their Detroit Line northbounds through Carleton to the ex-Pennsy when they totall...

I often go back to this site when looking for information for my model railroad, or if I just want to remenber "the good ole days" of Plymouth. You want good ol' days try this link. NYC-PM connection

Anything using the newer NYC-PM connection these days that was built to better handle the CP traffic to CSX, since all their traffic is now on NS? Has CSX ever given thought to running their Canadian interchange traffic in one train directly to Toledo or GR, bypassing Rougemere altogether? JG

[quote="AARR"]That's about half of what it was in the CR days Uh, no. I'm not trying to be the downer here, but what is the benefit of building in Durand? Yes, it has the rail connections and the nearby highway connection, but is it near the source of the raw materials? No. Is it near the customer? Not unless something else big is happening we haven't heard about. If...

Re: Railfanning at Plymouth/Romulus/Wyandotte in the 1990s

What was railfanning like in the 1990s? Was CSX busy? How many GTW trains were on the Shoreline sub? I know Conrail was busy, That NS line in Romulus was it always NS? Was it fun to railfan in the metro Detroit area in the 1990s? I know these days Plymouth on has 15 trains or so a day. CN in Wyando...

Re: How busy is Delray these days?

Figure it this way:

NS Detroit Line: 20-25
10-12 on the Shore Line (CN)
CP through the tunnel, 12-14
NS/CSX through the tunnel, 4-6?
CSX from Lincoln Secondary, around 4
Locals, transfers and Boat Yard trains all gravy.

50-55 road trains, give or take, sounds about right on a typical day.
