Re: IORY South End Part Five
Got a couple more I&O sightings from the Springfield area to report. Today on my way home from work I spotted a southbound I&O freight coming down to the signal at Maitland on the old DT&I line. Wasn't close enough to catch what the lead engine number was though. Yesterday was a more interesting sig...

Re: IORY South End Part Five
A couple of I&O sightings from this week so far by me in the Springfield area. First was on Monday afternoon as I was driving home from work, I saw an I&O train on the NS Dayton District going over US 68 as I drove underneath. Power was JFDX 8045, IORY 4070, 4083, what cars I could see before I was ...

Re: DSSX Salt Hopper question
When I lived in New Haven, I saw several DSSX cars at the NS yard in town. The majority were second hand 3 bay covered hoppers of various manufacturers, but I did see several of the 2 bay covered hoppers like the one pictured in a previous post. The best one I got to see was an ex Conrail ACF Center...

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Today I saw the Urbana Sub local backing up to Maitland on my way home from work today. Couldn't see the power as it was at the opposite end of the train(it was backing up with no engine on the rear). This was one of the biggest locals I have seen in the almost two years of living here, it had about...

I can confirm the storage cars are definitely gone on the Maitland to Cold Springs section.

I have my grandfather's old Penn Central switch lock key here at home, found it last year when going through my grandma's stuff after she passed away.

Re: Erie through Ohio City.
Alger to Lima was gone before 1982, when my Columbus Division track chart was printed. From Marion to Alger was called the Harrod Running Track and was abandoned, based on penciled in notes on the pages, by 1985. The tracks in Ohio City were removed recently, having been owned by the Van Wert County...

Maybe it was 3887, I did try to get the number as I drove by at 65 MPH on US 68 so perhaps I misread it

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Today after work I spotted the Urbana Sub local heading up to Urbana with the CFE 3883 and the Ohio Central painted EMD and a very short train(3-5 cars) around 2:40pm.

IORY crew at Uniopolis picking up a grain train to take to Hamler. CSX 870 leader. Big year for Uniopolis, they got a mountain of grain stored outside on the ground! Usually the CSX power equipped trains have been transferred to CSX at Cairo. They ran light to Uniopolis to pick up the train and got...

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Yesterday after work on my way home I spotted the Urbana Sub local stopped at Maitland diamond. Train was a mix of boxcars and covered hoppers(just for AARR, I counted I think 14 boxcars and 7 or 8 covered hoppers). Power was one of the red and gray EMD's(couldn't see the number from the highway).

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Today after work I spotted a grain train sitting south of Maitland, with its train stretched back under US 68 and over Upper Valley Pike Road. The train was mostly CSX cars along with a few Conrail cars, the lead engine was the CFE 388X(not sure of the last digit) and it was pointed north.

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Wednesday on my way home from work I spotted the southbound train from Lima coming up to Maitland. The power was JFDX 8045 and IORY 4084(?) - not positive on that second unit. This is the first time I have seen one of the turns come into Springfield since I moved down here in 2012.

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Too bad I ran out of time, still haven't caught 5011 yet. Also the WCH-B came in late so I would have gotten 3 IORY trains in Springfield had I had another half an hour. Maybe sometime I'll get a northbound through here but for now here is a southbound http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3814/10353419726...

It was 1977 or 78 after Conrail downgraded the ex PRR Xenia to Dayton line as a through route.cbehr91 wrote:When did the DT&I-Grand Trunk Cincinnati trains start running via Cold Springs?

The plant in Decatur can hold a ton of cars, they have a giant 8 or 10 track main yard that stretches for at least a quarter of a mile with a small Plymouth industrial switcher, then there is another track that leads back into the middle of the plant with about two or three tracks splitting off of i...
