Re: Deshler vs. Fostoria vs. Berea
That's mainly because I like the photographic opportunities for the Toledo Sub. It's also a cool chase from Deshler to Leipsic. If you think Deshler to Leipsic is cool, try chasing one down to Lima! Or at least setting up for one down there. Lima has some neat photo ops along with Ottawa and Columb...

Re: Deshler vs. Fostoria vs. Berea
Traffic volume is fairly important to me. I'm not going to go sit somewhere because it's a cool place and see 6 trains in 8 hours. That's my personal perference. I like a good location where you can really learn some big time mainline operations. I do enjoy it greatly when I visit any of the 3 plac...

Re: Toledo Branch Stuff
I did some looking on Google Earth and it looks like the two defect detectors that replaced the one in Kenton are located right at a couple of road crossings. The one at milepost 75 appears to be at County Road 190 and the one at milepost 65 is at State Route 701. Possibly CSX_CO could confirm this?...

What Railroad-Related Videos and DVDs Do You Have?
A post by redside20 got me looking through my railroad video collection (besides the VHS-C, Mini DV and HDV footage I've shot myself over the past 10 or so years). I'll post here what I have and I'm curious to see what else some of the members of the board have too. (if you so desire to share) It's ...

Here is the video I shot of 107, prettied up for streaming on the interweb, from the gravel lot of the wildlife preserve between Marion and New Bloomington.

Re: An Afternoon in Marion, OH - 7/12/10
I forgot to add NS 170 (whom kept calling himself a westbound). It had a Rent-a-Wreck trailing an NS "Catfish". Trains on the NS Columbus line are westbounds and eastbounds. It was an N&W thing. Anything traveling in a direction remotely towards Roanoke was an eastbound, and anything traveling away...

And Q-364 had CSX 8886 trailing and running (for a short time) on home rails. Looked good in YN3 even though the horn got swapped.

The drive's easy for me -- I live in Columbus! Although that means I'm three hours from Deshler and Fostoria, and two hours from Attica, Williard and Greenwich, but them's the breaks.Big Frank wrote:AND THIS IS Y I KEEP SAYING LETS GO TO MARION!!!! An Afternoon in Marion, OH - 7/12/10
A friend and I were chatting on AIM early this morning and he was listening to his scanner and told me that Q-106 had a KCS Southern Belle "Thundercab" leading. And since I had today off, I headed to Marion to hopefully get it returning on tonight's Q-107. As it turns out, Q-106 ran with two Souther...

Re: Railfan superstitions
The only one that seems to happen to me is I could be waiting for hours at a rural crossing in Western Ohio or Eastern Indiana and not see one single car the whole time I'm there, and then when a train is imminent or shortly after it's passed, a whole bunch of cars show up.

Passed by the station at about 2030, and I caught it out in the country by milepost 106 shortly thereafter. It was an unusually busy afternoon too.

CSX Train Location Updates/Heads Ups -- 6/27/10
Today's Q-390 will have a pair of BNSFs. It arrived at Garrett at 1:35 AM, so it may be well past Ohio by now, but that doesn't mean somebody to the east won't appreciate the heads up. K-695 with an ICE leading two CITXs was by West Kellog, NY at 3:19 AM. Probably getting close to Ohio if it didn't ...
