Re: Current Detroit Sub Manifests

Awesome job, florida581! Where would we be without you? I know this is across the state line - but - could you update us as well with what trains are currently operating out of Toledo? (Walbridge Yard)

31 Hours In Fostoria

BL2-1843 and I made another one of our marathon trips to Fostoria this week. We arrived at the Iron Triangle at exactly 6:00am Tuesday morning, May 16 and departed at 1:00pm Wednesday afternoon, May 17. For 31 straight hours we did not miss a thing as we spent the entire night driving back and forth...

Excellent trip report! I love the way you document train ID's, locomotives and the times seen. Nice! I'll be doing another All-Nighter myself next month. Looking forward to it.

Thanks, I will look into that. But it can wait until next week. In the meantime, I will be on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan starting tomorrow for a long weekend.

Re: 53 Hours in Fostoria and Marion

Oh No......My identity has been compromised! Seriously though, we had a great time at both Fostoria and Marion (as usual). And just so you know, I have on video everything we saw to go along with the Trip Report on paper. Just not sure how to upload any of it. It's a 3 hour video but maybe there is ...

53 Hours in Fostoria and Marion

BL2-1843 joined me for a four day trip down to Ohio for a long weekend of watching trains in Fostoria and Marion. We spent 26 hours straight between 4:00pm Friday and 6:00pm Saturday in Fostoria, then drove down to Marion to get a hotel where we crashed for the night. Sunday morning found us at Mari...

Thanks for the correction! Yes, I knew that. It was indeed Q151. A typo on my part even after proofing it twice. There's always August, BL2-1843. You still have one more opportunity to join me along the B&O double-track.

Fostoria / Deshler in 28 Hours

Ventured out last weekend again! Was in Fostoria from 7am through 7pm on Saturday for a non-stop 12 hour run in which time I saw 55 train movements. Left the Iron Triangle a bit after 7pm and arrived Crossroads Park by 7:45pm. Enroute I caught Q342 at Bloomdale, missed Q130 at North Baltimore, and c...

31 Hours In Deshler

I spent between 5:30am Saturday morning and 12:30pm Sunday afternoon continuously at Crossroads Park, in Deshler, Ohio. Stayed up for the entire night as I typically do so did not miss a train. Recorded 75 train movements in 31 hours. This count is lower than what I have experienced in past years. S...

Re: Fostoria Trip Report May 6 / May 7

Funny you should mention that. Yes, my video would have turned out great, if half of it wasn't distorted or snowy. I was bummed to say the least. Have major issues either with the camera itself or the videotape I was using. Perhaps it is time to go to an all digital format with a new camcorder.

Very nice meeting you as well. Thanks for your help with some of the train I.D.s. Made it over to National Train Day at the Amtrak station just fine.

Fostoria Trip Report May 6 / May 7

Did another overnighter in Fostoria last Friday / Saturday May 6 and May 7 ahead of driving up to Toledo for National Train Day. That means if anybody out there saw me, I was the crazy guy in the white Sonata with the full size video camera driving around like a madman trying to see every train thro...

Re: NS Michigan Line Train Symbols

Speaking of locals on the Michigan Line, I just caught eastbound B33 from Kalamazoo this morning on its way into Jackson Yard at 6:30am with two big C40's up front (9370-9770) towing 74 cars of mixed freight including a good mix of box cars, grain, cushion-coil, empty gons and tanks. It might be con...

Marion Questions

With spring in the air and longer days ahead, am wanting to make a daytrip down to Marion on a Friday or Saturday. Can anyone 'in the know' tell me how many trains I might see from 6 in the morning until 8 in the evening at the depot? Would like to see at least 25-30 trains in the daylight hours for...

Re: Questions about the Ludington Sub (trains).

Back in the late 1970's you had: LU75/TL74 - Toledo / Ludington MP17/ML18 - Midland / Chicago via Baldwin 145/146 - Grand Rapids / Manistee (which ran the Ludington Sub between Baldwin and Walhalla) Ludington East Local - Which went as far as Evart and serviced local industries The weekly 'bomb trai...

Re: NS Jackson Power

I just did an early morning Jackson Yard motive power check. The only locomotives in the yard were a pair of C44-9W's 9370 and 9770, a pair of four-axle geeps (GP38-2 5635 and GP38-3 5823) and a solo GP40-2, the 3015. 5 units was I could see and I drove all the way in as I always do. I'm in and out ...

Re: Norfolk Southern November Up-dates.

I spotted eight NS locomotives at NS Jackson Yard at high noon today. Saw GP40-2 3048, SD40-2 3231, GP59 4614, high nose GP38-2's 5106 and 5209, GP38-2 5346, C40-8W 8343 and C44-9W 9739. Not a bad haul for the Michigan Line, although I know everything was tied down for the Holiday no doubt.

Re: Norfolk Southern updates October 2015

Went by Jackson Yard on the way to work this morning at 6:45am and spotted NS 9739-3321-3556-9480. Must be the power for the Kalamazoo turn. Having 4 units was nice! Then on the way back to work after lunch, just happened to catch an eastbound local with NS 5346 and NS 3035 pulling 41 cars headed fo...
