Re: CN train 402
Back in the late 60's, 401 and 402 ran between Port Huron and Lang Ohio. They ran automotive parts and some farm machinery. Usually pulled into East Yard in Detroit between 8-9 pm. They set out and picked up and they were on their way.

Is this a friendly town for rail-fanning? Any good recommendations for lodgings? Thanks for the help.

That might involve too much "common sense" and/or "simplicity".

Re: Crew
Was the GTW still using cabooses in the early 80's? It would be crowded with a 4 person crew in a locomotive.

Crew
I have some questions about crew size and eliminating the caboose. Did these two items coincide? I left RR service in '68 and I know by the early 80's there were FRED devices in use. Thanks very much for your help with this request. Stinger

When the Grand Trunk Western RR existed (not and on-paper), did they ever have a hump yard in Illinois? Thanks for the help.

Re: Train Hits Parked Car in Grand Haven
I suggest the driver(or parker) of the vehicle be given THE SIGN. The crew may not have even felt the collision. My question is: Will railroads be required to post signs, TRAINS MAY PASS THROUGH THIS AREA. The dumbing of America has advanced faster than I expected.

Throwing money at public institutions makes as much sense as handing drugs to drug addicts, alcohol to alcoholics and $$$ to prostitures. There is no point to it and you will see little or no return for your efforts. Maybe MSU can use the money for the Nasser, Engler fiasco. Just my $.02

Re: New crossing gates, signals on GLC RR in Farwell, MI
I believe there are crossing gates on Blue Grass /West Campus Drive where GLC crosses. On Broomfield where there is much more traffic there are NO gates. What is the criteria for determining gates or no gates? I'm curious.

Air Pressure
If anybody can answer this question, Has the air brake pressure for passenger trains and freight trains always been the same? I seem to recall freight trains using 72 lbs. of air to release the brakes. This was back about '67 or '68. Am I hallucinating?

Railroaders may not be aware of this. Tracks predate snowmobiles and the trail they ride on. Just my $.02!
