Re: Caboose on CSX train
When in grade school, used to watch alot of switching at the old GTW NOLAN YARD, on the east side of Detroit ,on Outer Drive behind the old Polish Century Club. GT used Alco switchers, with Blunt trucks, and the trains that worked at Nolan had old WOODEN cabooses, with ARCHBAR trucks. They were in p...

Re: CN Lake Orion Sub - The end finally???
I remember back when they were building/ installing the new track for this. Used to work for a large machine tool manufacturer in Warren, that had a plant in Lake Orion. Had to go up there at least twice a week, and would see all the rail construction machinery out there, to the east of Joslyn Road....

Re: New Ties along the Lake State Railroad in Holly
Now, why does that not surprise me? Retired now about 4 years. Had many driving jobs-- some good, some bad, always had an eye and ear open in case I decided to make a change. It seems that nowadays companies expect you to jump through hoops for them, but do the least they can for employees. Oh. well. .

Yes, you are correct--- wonder about the difference in the RR if Rickoff&Co were in charge from day one.

Re: New Ties along the Lake State Railroad in Holly
From what I have seen from Lake State, they are about as first class as you can get in railroading. I had my doubts when they first began, but really have proved to be a winner. New track, new customers, good service, a great paint scheme, cannot ask for much more. The only sad issue was the end of ...

Re: Wye In Evart. ??
Thanks, Dave. O, for the quick answer. If I remember correctly, this would have been right behind the glass plant .Never knew it was there, now I know. Too bad it's all gone now. Thanks again!!

Wye In Evart. ??
I am getting old, so forgive me--- but--- somewhere it was referenced that there used to be a WYE in Evart. Used to run up there when working, to pick up at the glass plant, and cannot remember/figure out where there was a wye, so can anyone tell me where it was? Thanks in advance!

David-- so sorry to hear about your girlfriend. May she make a complete recovery. As a retired professional driver, I have seen more than enough accidents. I REALLY wonder when the legal system is EVER going to take this problem seriously. May God watch over you both, and take time to let her recove...

Re: GM Hamtramck PoleTown Plant
Sort of familiar with that area, but my question is--- the old CR line that went to the Packard Plant ends somewhere close to this area, so that makes it a switchback now to get into the Poletown GM plant, correct??

Re: L'anse, Mich. question
Does anyone know if CertanTeed-- or Koppers, has a trackmobile, or something to move cars? I ask because all of the vids show strings of cars being pulled out or pushed into this area, but yet nothing to show CN actually moving/ placing cars at CertainTeed, which would require a run around move, and...

OK, no problem-- so, those who live near there, or have seen the pocket of the switchback--- how many cars, or feet are there between the switch points, and the end of track??

Re: CSX Locomotive Roster News, Updates & Information Thread
Wonder how those SD23'S would work out, if there were more of them, and they were kept in a dedicated consist. Like an old Baldwin-- they won't work with other locos, but have an entire lash- up of Baldwins, and they would pull anything. And, use alot less fuel.

L'anse, Mich. question
According to Google maps, there are 2 separate ends of track in L'anse-- one on the old mainline, with a passing track, and one that branches off and crosses a main road, also with a passing track. Near the end of track, there is a switchback into Certainteed/ Celotex. How many car lengths are there...
