Pere Marquette
From RailroadfanWiki
The Pere Marquette is Amtrak's Grand Rapids, MI, to Chicago, IL, passenger train. Train 371 leaves Grand Rapids at 7:35 a.m. (EST), departing westbound. The train then stops in Holland, followed by Bangor, St. Jospeh/Benton Harbor, and New Buffalo before reaching it's final destination of Chicago Union Station. At 5:20 p.m. (CST), train 370 does the route again operating eastward, tying up in Grand Rapids at approximately 10:30 p.m. (EST). Like most Amtrak trains, power is usually a single GE P42, but Amtrak's GE 8-32PHW's do show up on 370/371 from time to time. Beginning in 2008, trains 370 and 371 started running with an engine on each end of the train, either with a pair of locomotives, or with a locomotive on one end and an NPCU "Cabbage" (rebuilt from an F40PH) on the other. Throughout the warm months, the PM has usually 3 Amtrak Horizon coaches. In the winter months, Amtrak equips the train with 3 or more double-deck Superliners. Starting February 2009, the train went back to a single P42 and Superliners, April brought back the Horizons to the Pere Marquette Route. As of May, the train lost its food service car in favor of "at your seat service" and has been limited to one locomotive.
Equipment Trends
- April 2009 this train shares equipment sets with The Blue Water, one set being all Horizons, and one having three Horizons and an Amfleet cafe car on it.
- January 2009 consist cut to three Superliners with a unit on each end.
- November 2008 for the Thanksgiving Holiday, the train had a P42 five superliners and a P42 on the rear.
