Marquette Rail History

  • AAR Reporting Marks - MQT
  • Marquette Rail is a Class III rail carrier that began operations in 2005 with the purchase of 130 miles of former PM trackage from CSX Transportation. The track operated by MQT consists of the former CSX Baldwin, Ludington and Manistee subdivisions. Originally operating with a fleet of leased NREX GP50's and other leased locomotives, the railroad now rosters 3 leased ex CP SD40-2's and 1 ex GTW GP9 from Great Lakes Locomotive Leasing and 5 GP38-2's purchased from GATX Rail Locomotive. MQT operates ex PM trackage from Walker (Grand Rapids) to Manistee and Ludington. The railroad's locomotive shop facilities are in Maistee. MQT interchanges rail traffic with CSX and Grand Elk (via CSX) in Grand Rapids.
