The Electromotive Division F2A is a 4 axle, 1,350 HP locomotive built by EMD in 1946. The F2A was really just an FT that wasn't drawbarred to a B unit, allowing railroads to run F2A's with A-B sets of FT's in A-B-A formation. It wasn't mechanically different from an FT but featured a new mechanical layout that would span the rest of F unit production. Outwardly, the F2A ressembles a late FT and an early F3A and is generally considered the transition model between the two. Boston & Maine had the most F2A's with 18 units. 74 A units were built along with 30 F2B's.
