The General Electric 8-40CW (more commonly reffered to as "Dash 8's") is a 6 axle, 4,000 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by GE from 1988 until 1993. The locomotive is generally credited as being the turning point of locomotives built by GE, getting rid of the problems associated with the Dash 7 series and paving the way for the sucessful Dash 9 series. With the Dash 8, GE surpassed EMD in locomotive sales and holds the number 1 spot to this day.
