I guess I need to explore more but haven't had the time.
I had no idea the tracks ran thatfar back between what I assume where the old car/locomotive shps that the covered hoppers and boxcar is on. Also didn't notice the track that runs back where the open top hopers are behind the shops. Do they load or unload in that stucture over the track?

The big buildings look very much like the Michigan Central shops at St. Thomas only larger. Where these MC shops at one time?

If i remember correctly (happens sometimes) they are ex-MC shops. I think i remember seeing Michigan Central markings on the buildings.

What you have labeled "Ballast Pit" is not so. Only place they unload ballast is downtown, right across from the depot. Switch comes off Freight Main 3 right in front of the depot and curves around a bit to the south then straightens out eat again and then goes over a pit where they can dump the ballest then grab it with a front end loader.
I used to get paid for doing what all of you like to watch!

Untill the last 3 year or so didnt the ballast pit used to be back there?
I thought I remembered an unloading site back there at one time.

Great pic of Jackson Yard!

The ballast pit has always been downtown at the old coach yard. The covered shed in the middle of the yard is for protection against the elements for the RIP track.

I've never seen it up close, could it be a pit for a conveyor for unloading covered hoppers?
