CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Micah Asks: Any chance you can get an axel count on D705?
Amessmann Replies: Final axel count was 680 (167 cars and 2, 6 axel locomotives) [/quote]
Not that one car makes a difference, but while I counted 168, the DD at Fowlerville reported 676 axels which computes to 166 cars and two six axle locomotives.
Regarding the Plymouth Sub videos mentioned by Vinnie5497 that was yours truly who took them all, am still here at the same location (MP 54,8 west of Howell) but all posted by my son who is also a member of this board and currently living in NW Iowa with a view of BNSF to see trains there.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
I initially counted 166 cars, must've done my math wrong in converting it to axle count.
and that's really cool, many thanks for documenting all that, it's interesting to see these places almost two decades before I moved to Brighton. I can't find anything about the '89 CP 202 derailment on the Internet, I'll have to look up records at the library when it opens back up. From the looks of it, it was behind my middle school.

13:41 ET: D702 is all done with their work at Buzzi, ready to head west. They will be holding up at Grandville for Q326, who is at Zeeland. D702 has probably 30-40 cars with him.

14:22 D702 west clear MP9, CSXT 2742 leading. They’ve spent the past few hours switching at Buzzi in Grandville, and now it’s getting cloudy in zeeland.
Earlier, Q326 clear Zeeland at 13:45. Nice yo see another GP40-2 arriving for west Michigan (6244). It was being left on 2 track at Wyoming along with today’s Q326 according to radio chatter.

They were by Zeeland at 14:45, 54 cars total, including 5 picked up at Buzzi. The usual assortment of inbounds for west Michigan! No ash gondolas, but plenty for West Michigan RRSaturnalia wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:42 pm13:41 ET: D702 is all done with their work at Buzzi, ready to head west. From the scanner archives, between 2:24pm/2:54pm D702-27 was reported by the DD at mp CG19.1 with 224 axles & 2,931 feet long. Assuming the CSXT #2742 was paired with the CSXT #6926 (as they were on last night's D700-26) & had 54 cars.GP30M4216 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 2:24 pm14:22 D702 west clear MP9, CSXT 2742 leading. Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Must be another pre planned meet between GLC & D708 at Ann Pere today. Last night, prior to midnight, GLC Z62426 was at Ann Pere, picked up the 78 cars 708 brought back to Howell from Brighton yesterday and dropped off 73 more for CSX in the Howell pass. Just prior to 17:00 today, I hear GLC pull into town from the north and cut off from his train and heads toward Ann Pere which indicates they have another large cut of cars for CSX, BUT, 708 has not picked up the ones from last night. Within seconds, I hear D708 leaving Fowlerville who says they are going to Brighton with their GLC set out to run around their train, bring them back to Howell, and pick up 73 cars in the pass. So, another long evening with D708 and Z624 close by. D708 at Ogihara setting off some cars first.

D706 east at Fox with 3211, 76 cars with 738 as mid train DPU and the remaining train behind for a total of 132 cars if I counted right. Everything ahead of the DPU is for Lansing and GLC, including lots of coke for Cadillac.

D708 east by Howell at 6:11pm with 46 cars give or take the way I count. For amessmann, the CP 202 derailment in Brighton was on May 11, 1989. Just happened to be in Brighton looking at new cars on this day and watched 202 go east when the train went into emergency and stopped. Despite being only blocks away, I heard nothing unusual until sirens from every direction started going thru town. Checked it out to find what had happened. Derailment was between Washington/Hyne Streets and Brighton Lake Road. Many cars piled up between these two streets but other cars were on the ground between Brighton Lake Road and Rickett as well.
I have this on video, regardless if it made what Steve posted on you tube from the Plymouth Sub series. Not everything he tried to post made it, so there are fair amount of sections missing that never got posted.

NB mixed freight stopped at Newburgh in Westland, and blocking Palmer Rd. Looks like D735.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Back when I was dispatching (in the dark ages), the cops used to sit at Glenwood, Palmer and Newburgh and write tickets if trains blocked the crossing not moving for more than 5 minutes. I don't know what (if any) laws they have on the books for that sort of thing now.
