That's because for some of us the closest thing to a unit train we see regularly is three boxcars with paper products. Besides, seeing the CSX power on the GDLK was a bit different. Wish CSX would bring the cat back......

Agreed...short lines with SDs and Amtrak gets a little old after a while, and I don’t usually have time to drive to Schoolcraft or Indiana anymore.
the contents of the above post are my opinion and mine alone, and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.
It kind of did have a circus train feel to it, by the way it was 93 cars over the detector yesterday. Hauled out my Conrail Three Rivers signs and attached them to a trackside post with the lead unit in the background thru town.
AARR wrote:My notes show the elevator's capacity as 3,180,000 bushels. That's about 825 car loads in 110 ton cars. I suppose it's possible but in my opinion unlikely that they'd be able to load 5-10 units trains "every" month. Looking forward to updates .
That is nearly ten 93 car trains. I'd say the real limit for how many trains would be how fast the grain could be received by truck at White Pigeon. Assuming the elevator is full an no trucks arrive ten trains empties the elevator. The next train depends on when enough trucks arrive to refill the elevator.
The train cleared Schoolcraft around 2. I think they might’ve got held up by Amtrak.

Hey GTW, since you got some car numbers to track, by the way that Rock Island blue one was neat with THE ROCK plus CN & W plus its current markings, could you let us know the number of days to Rocky Mount for this first trip. Thanks in advance.

Very unlikely. How big is the area they draw grain from depends on price they are willing to pay.
Lots of strange routings on grain this year due to the unusual growing season caused by the extremely wet spring.

Congrats to CSX for picking up the business
You would have been right there with them if you were in GR
Well that's a much cleaner response compared to mine which was deleted.

GRHC - you know every night I can imagine he is in front of his computer screen sitting in his underwear swearing profusely and drinking Blatz beer combing the RailRoadFan website for grammatical errors.
AFLK wrote:I have a qustion for you guys, what IDs are they using on the Plymouth sub for these grain trains? I’ve seen G010 and V778, is there anything else?
Since there's only been 1 train so far, its a little early to tell. The empty ran as V778 up to Plymouth, then ran as G013 to Grand Rapids (because it ran with a Lansing crew), then the load left as G778.
