Virtual Railfan has added a couple new Elkhart cameras on Youtube along the Chicago Line. Description says it's hosted by the city.

Cool. On city property at the NY Central Museum. It is good to see it running.

Something strange the other night. Lake Shore Limited 48 made it's usual station stop eastbound just after midnight but based on ATCS, it crossed from 2-1 at CP 421. It wasn't clear enough on camera to see if the train was really on the crossover. The east switch is just to the west of the large station sign, so there is room for the train to use the east end of the platform.

One of those times where despite the camera I wish I were there to see from a different perspective.

Watching it now. Three trains at the same time, one on each track.
Last night there were an east and west camera. Tonight there is only the west facing camera. Looks great on a 60 inch flat screen.

Someone told me there will be a 3rd camera mounted on the depot itself. Supposedly you can pan it too or did I misinterpret that. Either way a trifecta view at 421.

Mods will pan it as they see fit.
This is my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If this is a problem get used to it.

Amtrak 48 did anotherTrack 2 arrival this morning. I saw the lineup on ATCS and took a quick trip to the station to watch it. This morning's train did a single stop. A few days ago 48 made three stops while crossing from 2 to 1 (I am assuming they had passengers in three parts of the train). The passengers this morning got off the train and boarded through a coach.

Now arriving Track 2 ... (my video taken from the platform)

The angle from the museum makes it hard to see trains crossing over. This angle makes it obvious.

Nice video. I hope the new railcam on the station will be just as good.
Trails to Rails. Put the track back.

I tried to film a crossover stop last weekend (seems to be popular with 48). I was at ground level at the station but it wasn't clear the train was changing tracks. Just a slight wiggle. I assume that it will be on the second floor level of the depot, which should be a better angle. I expect the third camera will be good for showing the platform and west end of the interlocking and may help show the freight crossover moves.

For those who do not know, CP 421 Elkhart has four crossovers and three other switches.

The two additional crossovers shown in blue are possible but were not installed. The track at the top right is the Kalamazoo Branch with the signals on the single track representing CP 1 on the branch. CP 1 is the division point between NS control and GDLK control. There is a connection on the Kalamazoo Branch for the Elkhart and Western. NS has a local that exchanges cars with the Elkhart and Western. Their trains do not have trackage rights on NS.

The current cameras are opposite of the Kalamazoo Branch connection.
