NS Updates: September 2019

Unread post by blueheron13 »

At about 19:10, I heard (via scanner) that a NB train either at or near YD (either 332 or 334) was instructed, in the NS dispatcher's words to "set off the mother and the slug" at River Rouge. The dispatcher asked the train crew for help figuring out what that terminology meant. :)

From scanner feed, a W31 (new train to me, but have heard it on the scanner a few times recently) SB at Wyandotte, and 27N NB leaving Warner Yard in Monroe. Update: As of 17:31, W31 is now SB at Rodney. What is this train?

W31 is a extra section of 31M.

Yesterday W31 worked River Rouge after leaving Oakwood. Could it maybe be an extra 331? I haven't seen it in person yet.

It is indeed an extra NS 331. The extra section of 31M would be W1M.

From scanner feed at 18:15, NS B20, which is currently working the Primary Lead to the Port of Monroe, was informed that they will have permission to subsequently go down the Ford Lead (in Monroe) to work "National", which I believe means National Galvanizing on Telb St.

Just wanted to pass along to the board the news that there is a new SB train in Southeast Michigan: NS 333. I believe it first ran yesterday, September 24. It originates in Sterling Heights and makes it way south to Ohio via the Detroit Line, much like 31M. To the best of my knowledge 31M still runs as well, but I will try to confirm that. At least today, NS 333 was a pretty early train, having already worked River Rouge and moving SB at Visger Rd at 8:45 AM.

Not related, at 14:23 NS 881 (with coal empties, I believe) is SB at LaSalle.
