I thought there would be at least someone excited to hear about this knowing the shortage of four axel units in GRP. As it turned out, had not seen GP38-2 2547 since it went by Howell on Q32605 on Feb 5, 2002 with a locomotive set of 2631+8858+2683+2547. This tells me the trailing two units were GRP yard and local power even back then. GP40-2 6901, then mated with road slug 2251 was last seen at Avon Yard in Indy on Sept. 2nd, 2003.

I was excited! But busy at work when they rolled by this morning so could not post even thought I saw them. Great to see two standard cab Geeps visiting west MI. Something must be going on in Chicago. My understanding was that when GRP's loco shop closed, west Michigan's yard power was generally sourced from Chicago. Because of emissions requirements, they generally have newer GP38-3, GP40-3 and SD40-3 units, so that's what west Michigan usually has. Good for emissions but bad for nostalgia! :D This also explains why so few slug sets come to West MI, which is unfortunate because some runs such as D700 seem like the ideal job for a slug set. I know Plymouth gets them occasionally. SO! All this to say it;'s nice to see something a little different. What happened to 6901's slug?

Also, Bob, I know I saw 2547 up in Baldwin....it'll take me some time to dig the photo off the external hard drive but I feel like it was in 2004. I will confirm and let you know :)

Q32930 by Howell at 07:11 with CSX 5415 and another four axel for you Rob and GP30M4216, 6045, not seen since 6-27-10 on a ribbon rail train here in Howell. Only 43 cars on 329. Q32830 went east at 05:17 with CSX 3197+5401 and 85 cars.

Regarding road slugs, Have seen numerous photos of late with mother units without their yard slugs. Many have been retired in the last year or more, including mothers units as well, so another sign of the times I guess. Nice place to last catch 2547, in Baldwin.
