NS Updates - July 2019

Unread post by Burb8145 »

Eastbound with lots of NS boxcars stopped at red at Ecorse Junction on the Detroit District right now. A high hood is trailing. It's waiting for two trains on the Detroit Line to clear Delray, one CP, one NS.

New and changed Michigan trains from the NS Train Symbol Updates Page Facebook group:

121 Sterling Heights, MI - East St. Louis, IL (ALS)
289 Detroit Oakwood, MI - Chattanooga, TN
334 Bellevue, OH - Detroit Oakwood, MI

121 will most likely use the Detroit District, 334 is completely definite to use the Detroit Line, I have no idea if 289 will use the Detroit District or the Detroit Line.

I'm curious if 334 is replacing 332, or if there will be a 332 and a 334.

Apparently both 332 and 334 will be running alongside each other.

288 has NS 8099 (Southern HU ES44AC) leading. Likely still in Ohio right now.

From FB, that 288 with the HU is coming east on the Detroit District (Wabash). Didn't 288 formerly use the Detroit Line?

288 will be most likely to use the Detroit District if they aren't assigned any work in Fostoria.

That's right, they go to Ft. Wayne before Ohio.

NS 289 by MP 35.0 in Milan @ 10:05 AM with NS 9259 and NS 9728. Has a lot more manifest now.
"Clear Milan, NS 256 out.”

Is there any indication if the grain move is heading west already, or soon?

Sorry, don't know. If you end up seeing them flew west, feel free to post. I'm down near La Porte, going to Chesterton soon.

A CP Westbound exited the Detroit Tunnel around 1600. Mixed freight. Didn’t see the leader, but the trailing unit was a CEFX AC4400 (painted blue)

31M just passed Eureka Road in Wyandotte. NS horsehead widecab leading solo.

Southbound on Detroit Line track 2 right now, signal just south of Ford Avenue in Wyandotte is green and there is a light in the north horizon.

Did the B33 Jackson-Kalamazoo turn move to days? Haven't seen it lately. Is there a B34 still working days Battle Creek to Kalamazoo, and does it sometimes do Battle Creek-Jackson instead? Appears the B57 is still doing night local duties from Hinman yard in Battle Creek to Augusta. NS 5334 and 5337 is current power at Hinman. Amtrak has been doing track work on the Michigan Line at night west side of Battle Creek.

UPDATE: So I posted the above and , lo and behold, later got to chat with someone with first hand knowledge. AMTRAK is doing trackwork overnight currently from MP124 to the west. B57 is doing its usual night gig local switching, but can't go west to get Knappen in Augusta like usual. The B34 switches Knappen during the day now, and also goes all the way to Kalamazoo to switch Lewis Howard. The B33 is now a day job called at noon, unknown if that will go back to nights after Amtrak's track project is done or if it will remain on days. I was told Post/Kellogg are dead due to their usual summer shutdown, but business has picked up at WestRock and Reconserve.

1327 - B33 is sitting in Jackson Yard, engine on, headlight on, with no crew inside. They’d been switching for a while. Not sure why they haven’t left yet. They’ve not asked AML Dispatch about getting a signal to leave.
