Grand Rapids MI railroad scanner
Here is the link for the online railroad audio stream:
http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/19206
From there, you should be able to select how you want to play the feed. Can choose from the webbased player on their site, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Winamp, iTunes, or a Java web player.
On my phone, I use a free app called Scanner Radio. On there, you should be able to find the scanner as a link called CSX, GDLK, MQT and GRE Rail - Grand Rapids Area
Additional note: Advise to also check out these two streams as they get much better reception than the feed I am running currently, located a bit south of my feed but picks up downtown GR well:
CSX Channel 8 - http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/22783
CSX Channel 35 - http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/23220
-----------------------
With the help of Mike, GLC 392, and Amtrak1007, the Grand Rapids scanner is online.
We have set up the Diamond X50A antenna approx 30 feet off the ground..has around 65 feet of coax running to a Yaesu FT-1900R ham radio.
PC is running Windows7 with Scannercast
Maps, frequencies, and scanner chatter information will come as we do more testing with this equipment. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments on the scanner feed.
Antenna mounted at home:
Channels being scanned:
160.230 - CSX road
160.320 - CSX dispatcher on the east side of Grand Rapids
160.635 - CSX dispatcher west of Grand Rapids
160.590 - CN Chan 2 dispatcher
160.530 - CN Chan 1 Road
160.440 - Marquette Rail road
160.335 - Grand Elk Road
161.535 - Grand Elk Yard
161.235 - Grand Rapids Eastern
Great tutorial at this link on how to set up a feed of your own: http://www.alabamarailfan.com/live-scan ... tutorial=1
As a note, if you sign up for a free account on http://broadcastify.com, you can access an archive of the scanner feed. They are available in 30 minute segments and can listen to any particular minute that you'd like to, in case there's some information you may have missed and want to hear again.

Sounds like one of the CSX yard channels is what's bringing in the intermod of weather/police info.. I'll have to test it some more soon to see which channel it is. If anyone can tell based on the scanner chatter, let me know.

Nice, it's a couple blocks away from me then. I was wondering who I'm listening to right now.

Much appreciated Mike... Also, Trevor and emdacesteve asked if the GR feed was down... Are you not able to connect to it, or is just no radio communications going on?

Checked out the radio last night, and everything seemed in working order. Changed the channel over to some police stuff, and it streamed through the server fine and out to my speakers... this is GR afterall, and we have times of 60+ minutes of silence...maybe after the new radio is in, we'll pick up the weak signals better to allow for more chatter.Mike wrote:Zack, I can connect to the server there is just no audio....

Here's a little bit of an update...found at least one of the channel's that was causing lots of weather reports/police, NS's 160.980. I'm turning that one off until I get a different radio.
You'll also hear a humming noise..i think the root of it is between the radio and my sound card on the server downstairs..i'm going to try to swap it out with another sound card in a few days to see if this takes care of that noise. It could also be the radio, but not sure on that one yet.

The Winamp feed will be fixed soon when Mike has time to work on it. At the top of this thread, updated the links to the online scanner.

Re: Grand Rapids MI scanner
If you weren't aware, the feed had an issue with the soundcard making it basically inaudible. I replaced the soundcard on the server last night, things are back to normal. Still looking to get a decent Kenwood or Icom base station to hook this up to get better range and get rid of the annoying ground hum.
