We need to do the whole line from waterville to Grand rapids including the bridge and the culvert. We didnt open at all this year one reason was bad track. We have over 400 ties to be put in but no one wants to do it.

At one time there were 6 cabooses listed for the TLE&W in Grand Rapids, OH:

I believe that the 2 that are returning to nature in what is now a jungle are:

Wood, cupola, C&O 90864 and steel, cupola C&O 903667.

Two that I still list as GR are:

Steel, bay window, NKP 466/N&W 557566 and steel, cupola, PRR 477600/PC/CR 19189.

Two that were there but might/should be gone are/were:

Steel, transfer, GTW 75057, reported to be for sale and steel, streamlined cupola, PRR 477883, reported to be going to Decatur, AL, but it has never been reported in Alabama or elsewhere?

The 2 cabooses I list in Waterville, OH, are:

Steel, transfer, GTW 75053 and steel, bay window, NKP 475/N&W 557575/TLEW 475.

An update on the status of these 8 crummies would be appreciated!

Thanks, Roger
:D Thanks for the info are you a past member? You are right about the GTW it was sold but, has yet to be removed from the TLE&W. If I bought ac baboose I would already have it off the property but, I don't know what is taking so long. The only caboose in Waterville at this time is the NKP 475. One caboose was moved off the property in Grand Rapids about 2 years ago. I belive it was PRR on it had circular windows on it. The wood one appears to be very damaged and I don't think will ever operate again. The wood is roting out. I would like to work on restoring our Steel caboose next to the wooden one. But, the TLE&W needs much more members to acomplish these tasks. If you would be interested in helping out please contact the TLE&W at WWW.TLEW.org

At this time the TLE&W has no more plans to scrap anything else. The amount of volunteers we get on a normal work day for track workers is around 7 or 8 including me and conrailfan. Help would be much apperiated from railfans. :D or anybody willing to help. We can't get running if we don't get help from anyone :!: It is a very big task replacing ties. If anyone is interested in helping out the TLE&W contact us a http://WWW.TLEW.org we need voulnteers! :D

I dunno if it's cut, but I know that in GR on Road 1577 when you cross the tracks one of the rails is out. Been that way for years now.

There is a rail out on Grand Rapids road crossing. A snow plow took it out a few years back. Tre reason it has not been fixed is the previouse leadership wanted a whole new crossing not just the rail replaced.

I thought the track was cut just south of Village Parkway in Waterville as well. No Physical Connection with the NS.

Edit: Found this on Google Streetview, the rail is unattached but easily reattached, I thought there was actual rail missing on the other side of the street but the weeds are too high to see on street view.

That is the end of our line. Milepost 14. That is why it is blocked off.

That is the end of our line. Milepost 14. Theres a rummor that a person took a motorcar to Maumee one time. Im not sure if its true or not.
:? That never happened it was someone talking about why they cut the rail and the response was so no motorcar and/or train would ever end up on NS tracks and go to Maumee. Nothing has ever been operated down NS tracks unless it was a delivery from NS to us.

They only own up to Dutch Road on the north side of Waterville. NS owns it the rest of the way in.
:) We don't even own that far we own up until Village Parkway. NS just does not maintain that section like they do on the other side of Dutch road.

Back in 2007 me and a newspaper reporter got a track car ride, including over the bridge at Grand Rapids. Awesome.

Wow, that's cool. In 2007 that culvert was also washed out, so it sounds as if the resources will be tough to come up with. That's too bad.

We have not had the Bluebird in Grand Rapids since 2000. :( The motorcar rides will be before the culvurt so it won't affect us. Hope to see you there if you are going! :D

Should make this remark Roger. According to the new reporting marks on our caboose, Southern Michigan Railroad Society now has the GTW 75053.

The TLE&W would appear to be serious in its freight-hauling endeavor. They have filed with the STB a Notice of Exemption to lease and operate the 1.8 miles of NS track between Waterville and Maumee. I believe Johns Manville is one shipper in Waterville, are there any others? I'm guessing NS will continue to serve the Anderson's complex in Maumee, along with whatever business they have there. Perhaps TLE&W, dba Midwest Rail, plans to use their newly acquired Alco S-?, late of the grain elevator in Ottawa Lake, for their new freight operation.

The trackage that is involved is past (I'll call it "south" - not sure if the rail line is considered north south or east west) both Manville plants in Waterville, so NS will continue to serve them. I almost wonder if this is a way to restore the connection between the TLE&W & NS by having the freight carrier as the intermediary?

In a conversation I had last fall with a member "in-the-know". He said they have a couple of companies that has committed to having rail service, if they were to get the freight exemption.
