The evolution of the American railroad system 1893

In 1893, Joseph Nimmo Jr delivered an address at the 1893 Columbian Exhibition in Chicago. Here's the paper and a bit about his life.

Joseph N. Nimmo

Washington, June 15. - Joseph N. Nimmo, LL.D., statistician and economist, died at his home in this city to-day following a stroke of paralysis last Tuesday. He was 79 years old and had lived in this city for the past fifty years. During the earlier years of his life he practiced his profession as a civil engineer. For ten years he was chief of the Government Division of Internal Commerce and of the Bureau of Statistics.
