RIP Sleepy LaBeef

Unread post by Rick A »

Anyone out there ever head of Sleepy LaBeef? He was one of the great unknown rockabilly artists, a contemporary of Elvis Presley, and he toured right up until recently. I first heard him back in the early 70's when he would occasionally play a residence at the Hillbilly Ranch on Kneeland Street Boston. The club was a little bit of the south up north in Boston, with wagon wheels on the walls and a real split rail fence around the dance floor! I understand it was a favorite of the truck drivers who were up north making deliveries in the area. Great memories of a fantastic live performer and an all around nice guy. They called him the "human jukebox" and it was said he knew over 6000 songs. He was famous for his 10-15 minute medleys that finished up his sets. Here are a few of my favorite Sleepy LaBeef tunes. enjoy!
