Apparently Ottawa Co, MI will start enforcing a current law that requires professional photographers to have a licence to photos in county parks.

It's not a money thing- it's a crack down on commercial photographers behaving badly.

Maybe the insurance companies put them up to it. You never know. The article mentions liability insurance toward the end.

Years ago, back in the 60s and 70s I used to exhibit bees and honey along with another 8 or 10 other beekeepers at the Michigan State Fair. We put up some nice large displays. We never had any problems or bees get loose. And we added considerably to the educational value of the fair. After about ten years, we were told that we must carry 1 million dollars of liability insurance, and we were directed to some company that sold carnival liability insurance. A couple guys went along with it, and the rest of us just dropped out, rather than deal with the hassle. The public were the big losers, as more and more of the farmers and agricultural exhibitors got tired of the increasing bureaucracy and dropped out. Now the nations oldest state fair is long gone.
