Onward to modern times. The Google car hasn't driven down the road this was shot from. It may take a bit of MQT knowledge to find it, so a clue, northbound.

I had planned to follow them all the way to Baldwin but with the numerous slow orders, failing light and fierce mosquito's I threw in the towel after this. In the distance they have come around a slight left hand turn.

The Google car hasn't been across this crossing making it somewhat difficult to find. It did drive close to this spot. I thought the short sharp grade made this an interesting spot. North of Newaygo but not as far as Baldwin...or even Bitley.

That's 15 Mile Road I think between Bitely and Baldwin in Lake County.

He said it's between Newaygo and Bitely, so 15 mile road would be too far north.
Let's try 5 Mile Rd north of White Cloud.

Between Brohman and Kopje??? Track profile shows a slight grade northward around MP58 before a descending grade at Kopje.

Z is correct. It W 5 Mile Road between Mundy Avenue and M-37 in Lincoln Township, Newaygo County. Between Brohman and White Cloud.

Found it on the Notre Dam campus map, that spur to the Notre Dame U power plant in South Bend, IN was east off the old MC RR branch line between Niles, MI and South Bend, IN crossing old US-31/old US-33 (now Indiana 933) marked with just crossbucks sign just south of Brother Andre Drive. It is south of Moreau Dr. just west of St. Joseph Drive on the Notre Dame campus. Later, that spur was north of the old New York Central RR Water level route (now NS Chicago line).
