Well the last I heard was the NS was giving the museum a hard time about moving it. Brakes are A-ok on it but NS keeps coming up with "things" than there is the COST! Museum dosen't have the money to spend on moving this locomotive to Dearborn from New York. Some thing about the economy tanked and they are not generating enough money for the operation.

So for the forceable future the GG-1 will stay where it is. It is possible Delray Tower in Detroit, Mich may close in the next two years or so depending on corporate cash flow and it has been suggested to the museum people that they should get the interlocking machine, board and really everything in the tower. Would make a great exhibit, better than the GG-1 but they are not interested. Only seem to care about automobiles and have very little interest in railroads or electricity for that matter. Would like them to fire up Station "A " but again, lack of interest on the museums part.

When the Henry Ford quit doing Rail Road Days, I should have know that they did not care about rail fans. With the possable execption of Thomas The Tank Engine that brings in $$$.

Heaven forbid a non profit organization wants to bring in funds.

They have changed things immensely lately with the new air exhibit and the race exhibit. They will get to fancy up the railroad side of things soon enough.

From what I've heard nobody wants to transport it to Dearborn. Apparently the brakes have been completely re-done to today's standards.

Wouldn't it be nice of NS to transport it here free, as a donation, and tax deduction.

Just curious. Could it be transported in a train, or would it have to be a separate move?

Was I believe to be slated as a NS Move, with a NS locomotive lead then the GG1. But we now will never know.

Old passenger car that they are protecting from the weather. Not long enough to a GG-1.

The "old passenger car" is "Fairlane" formerly owned by Henry Ford... and I mean "The" Henry Ford, not Henry Ford II. Sad to see that such a relevant historical car to the Henry Ford Museum is in such desperate shape and not stored indoors.

How odd. Last time I was at the museum (Labor Day 2009) "Fairlane" was parked IN the museum next to the Ingersol Rand Boxcab. Wonder why they moved it outside?
