NKP 765 Open House Photos
Hope I'm putting this in the right place!
Today I went to New Haven with my dad and my older brother to see the 765 under steam for the first time in years.
It's a special locomotive for my father, as his uncle was a Berk engineer on the NKP when he was a kid. His uncle used to take him to the Bellevue roundhouse and always made sure to have a signature whistle for when he went past my dad's house in Green Springs, OH. It was that steam engine (Berkshires in general really) that made my father fall in love with trains. And it was the 765 that my father took my oldest brother (who is now 27) to see when he was just 5 years old. And again, the Berk stole the heart of another young kid. So the NKP Berks (and 765 in particular) holds a strong meaning to our family.

She would look better if they would put the "Mars" light back on.

Steam again
It's about time the NS management realised what they lost in 1994 and allowed the 765 back on the main, now if we could only see the J run again instead of rusting away in a museam. Oh btw is there any kind of schedule as to where the 765 is gonna be?

Throw enough money at it and 611 will run again.SousaKerry wrote:It's about time the NS management realised what they lost in 1994 and allowed the 765 back on the main, now if we could only see the J run again instead of rusting away in a museam. Beautiful shots! I swear, no steamer looks better than a good 'ole Van Sweargian Berk. I visit the Pere Marquette 2-8-4 #1223 on a regular basis, and I hope she too may look as good as 765 some day. Anybody gonna try and catch the PM 1225 in December for the Polar Express excursions? Me and a few of my buddies will be chasing her on the 3rd. It'll be my first time seeing a big steamer running (the biggest thing I've seen under steam was an 0-4-2). Should be fun!

Chasing Steam Locomotives is VERY fun! Just be sure to have a fast car, because they move faster than you think on that line. . . .

Thanks for the tips, Gregg! Like I said this will be my first time seeing her and chasing steam so it should be great fun. I looked at the map yesterday and, geez! Owosso to Chesning (or however you spell it) is not very far! I heard that they'll be doing 35 mph all the way there. Is this true? It sure won't leave much chasing time!
