Manistique Paper Mill Question and a few other.

Unread post by Crow T Robot »

Is the Paper mill still running or has it been completely shutdown? read someplace it was reopening? There was an old switcher on the property saw it the last time I was up there in 2018 or 19 it was pretty run down is it still on the grounds or gone now? Is there still the two daily trains an east and westbound and are they still running an extra train that services the lumber sidings?

At the other site in the Upper Peninsula Board AGS reports frequently that there is rail activity here usually a few box cars at a time.

Best that I can surmise is CN sets out mty's on the east leg of the wye and picks up loads on the west leg. The mill must have a switcher (or something) to move cars from the wye tracks inside the plant.

I do not know the current status of the mill switcher, but I believe it is still running.

Trains L550 andL551 run daily Gladstone-Sault. A local operates east one day and west the next.
There still is an old centercab shell at the mill next to the road.

Does it still look like this? I took this photo back in 2016. The locomotive is a Whitcomb 45 Tonner and was built in 1945 for Union Carbide.
