SS Badger Sold

Unread post by Super Chief »

M-live has announced that the Lake Michigan Carferry operation has been purchased. Sale does include the Tug/Barge vessel also. New company will preserve the history and continue the cross lake service.

The Badger and Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted (and presumably the Spartan) are now owned by Interlake Steamship Co. Interlake has a very good reputation in the Great Lakes shipping industry and is family owned. I see this as a very good thing for the Badger!

I would be amazed if she was not finally converted to oil now at a minimum.

Detroit news published a piece about it. Sounds like they’re going to look into putting the Spartan back into service somehow.

Re the Spartan, "The company, he said, intends to explore opportunities for it."

That could mean anything from putting it back into service to cutting it down to a barge.

In the warmer months the traffic gets backed up pretty good in Ludington waiting for the Badger.

If Interlake wanted to jump on the opportunity they would convert the Badger to oil and dieselize the Spartan. Whatever parts they strip from the Spartan can be kept for the Badger.
