If 2011 is the first pic and it’s an engine from his childhood then I must be getting old...

I'm a teenager but I'm getting old because i remember nkp 765 conrail and the gmtx on glc long ago

It hasn't been that long since 765 ran on the GLC. Definitely less than 7 years ago. "Long ago" is a term better suited for when the oldest archived posts on this site were first written.

I'm amazed that 397 is being rebuilt. Seems like when a frame is bent that its usually the death knell of a locomotive.

If you want a 4 axle "lower" horsepower engine it becomes practical. Where the frame is bent and how bad matters.
It's possible to swap out the frame using one from a parts donor.
The current emissions standards likely have an impact on what is going to be done.
