Kiros Energy Marketing is opening a bulk propane transloading facility terminal in Gaylord. Would assume this is what this siding is being built for. Reported to be operational November 2020. Should be a nice increase in traffic for Gaylord.

They are definitely getting the north michigan market, with transloads in Grand Rapids, Saginaw and now Gaylord.

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
Does anyone know how much additional business this will be? Cars per week?
Thanks.

Is any of this traffic being taken from GLC? Seems in this corridor that GLC and LSRC compete for the same traffic, or the potential for that to happen.

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
Just a guess Dave but maybe 6-12 cars a week

Sounds good Don, thanks.
How many times a week do they go North of Grayling? Maybe twice per week is my guess.
Also by the way, do you or anyone know if the new Arauco Plant South of Grayling is receiving/shipping by rail yet? Looking at my maps app, Lake State has made a nice connection from that place to their mainline, along with an impressive track setup into there.
Thanks.

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
About twice a week to Gaylord sounds right, Dave.
According to the LSRC Newsletter they ordered 30 bulk head flats for service at Arauco. Also, the Grayling switcher has been seen going in that direction with box cars. So it "appears" Arauco is shipping by rail.

Word is (from someone who works there) that a twice a week run to Gaylord on Tuesdays and Thursdays is done by 394; Afternoon Grayling Job. My recent observations are empirical evidence to verify.

Just remember TC MAN you and I are paying for the new Manistee River bridge and rail work in the TC area. LSRC has an impressive sales lady who did wonders upon Grand Elks start-up in Kalamazoo back in 2009. LSRC has benefitted from her and doesn't have MDOT paying for their ROW maintenance. Yes they both have a smaller market but different circumstances to capture it.

Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
It's not from MDOT but LSRC is getting improvements paid for by Federal funding.
If you're paying state taxes, you likely are also paying federal taxes.

Oh, I know. That's why I'm wondering if LSRC is trying to get some of that GLC business on north. I'm surprised at all the money dumped into the TC trackage last year for 2 customers and maybe 2-5 cars a week on a good week. I mean, at what point does the state or GLC say no more?Super Chief wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 9:46 pmJust remember TC MAN you and I are paying for the new Manistee River bridge and rail work in the TC area. Well the A2TC group (passenger group) will benefit too from the rail maintenance. The one thread almost makes one wonder if the casino out by Williamsburg is going to have a loading area too. Don't the tracks go on the backside of their parking lot? It's win win for freight and passenger if God forbid It's run right.

Tracks do literally go right through the Casino property yet.Super Chief wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 8:16 pmWell the A2TC group (passenger group) will benefit too from the rail maintenance. Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
As far as I know MDOT still owns 105.6 miles of LSRC from Linwood to Sallings, a spot about 3 miles S of Gaylord. It has owned that stretch since 1980. I don't know what the maintenance arrangements are, but one suspects MDOT had something to do with the nice track condition south of Sallings.Super Chief wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 9:46 pm...LSRC has benefitted from her and doesn't have MDOT paying for their ROW maintenance...
Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
Hey Steve, please see the historical questions thread. They are asking about the old C&O main line in Flint and mentioned you by name. Thanks.

You can thank NYC for the good track to Mackinac thru Gaylord. Mainline 135# rail and ballasted. They did do the primary routes to that standard.
Re: Kiros Energy in Gaylord
The vast majority was actually 105 lb, with a few little bits of 127. See 1969 track chart on multimodalways.com.Super Chief wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 11:38 amYou can thank NYC for the good track to Mackinac thru Gaylord. Mainline 135# rail and ballasted. It was good track in the 1950s, but was in poor condition by the 1970s. The good shape it's in now is the result of recent upgrades.

I think 127 was the NYC standard if I’m not mistaken.Steve B wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 2:22 pmThe vast majority was actually 105 lb, with a few little bits of 127. Both 105 and 127 were NYC "Dudley" sections. Good background here:
