Generator coming to Edwardsburg on CN

Unread post by LansingRailFan »

So there’s another heavy load coming. CSX transferred to LSRC today.

Anyone got eyes on if LSRC transferred to CN yet?

There was one just delivered at Edwardsburg last week from the west. I was watching them unload it last Sunday.

LSRC has now transferred it to CN Flint Yard as of yesterday afternoon.

There is a power plant project going on in Niles that is responsible for these deliveries to Edwardsburg. I'm assuming something involving scheduling and/or clearances in town is why they weren't delivered via NS on the Michigan Line. The items in question are generator/turbine sets. I caught part of the first set last month that had the GT leader.

So, was this site the location of the Niles Yard into the Conrail era?

Here is a picture from the collection of Herb and Donna Ocheryder of the Niles property in 1919.

The Roundhouse and Turntable are still in place. A company called Roundhouse Industries (I think that's the name) occupies the site. Very cool to see how its been repurposed. The other building left is what I believe to be the former erecting shop or the backshop.

Fun fact, I learned that a few years ago had the proposed restoration of NYC 3001 got the green light, that this building was one of the options considered as a restoration site.
