A lot of talk about Lake State getting back into hauling coal trains again. Is that just rumor going around the camp fire or an actual done deal

Done deal. LSRC and CSX will have the Essexville coal through the end of the life of the plant, another 2 or 3 years IIRC. Supposed to switch over from CN/HESR very soon.

Do you, or your sources, know if these trains will go thru G.R., via the West Olive crews, again?

Would not be at all surprised if they run them thru Garrett. People furloughed down there they could call back relatively quickly to run them and no hill at Saugatuck either.

Ran through Deshler OH at 8:45pm as N80107, terminating at Wixom MI. N801 is still supposed to be used for West Olive loads, so I wouldn't count on future LSRC coal loads using that symbol.

That is great news. I despised these trains running via GRP/Plymouth on the few times they did because I just can NOT read those BNSF numbers at night, which most of them did.

Which one would that be? The other coal trains seem to be just fine with it if you mean St. Joe.

I do mean St. Joe. I am not suggesting that the bridge can’t handle to loads, clearly it can.

It seems to me that a 100 year old swing bridge will be due for some very expensive maintenance in the near future. There is also the chance for damage to the bridge. In either case I believe the railroad would be reluctant to spend the needed money.

Well, there's a 113-year-old swing bridge in New Richmond that is still holding up quite well.
