Wyandotte Oak Street

Unread post by hoborich »

Haven't been down to Oak street since last summer. What trains could I expect to see at Oak street from around 5 pm to around 2 am? Or Trenton. Thanks

For that time frame for CN, early on you might see M384 leaving Flat Rock to go to Toronto, or you might see M391 coming north from Toledo. Late in that time frame, you will likely see M385 heading south from Toronto to Flat Rock, and L502 heading south to Toledo. I don't know if there is still an evening Flat Rock train that heads up to South Yard. An on the NS side, I don't know the typical schedules well enough to make predictions.

If you want to broaden further and go for an entire 24-hour period...well, here is what, I believe, is the full list of trains that can be seen at Oak Street (including specials that don't run often):

M383 (manifest Toronto-Walbridge)

421 (coal empties Oakwood-Clairton, PA)
66Q (ethanol/oil Oakwood-Wilmington, DE)

29Q (autoracks Crewe, VA-Sterling)
332 (manifest Bellevue-Oakwood)
38E (manifest Bellevue-Wayne)
414 (coke loads Mingo Junction, OH-Rouge Steel)
420 (coal loads Clairton, PA-Oakwood)
67Q (ethanol/oil Wilmington, DE-Oakwood)

There may be some inaccuracies, let me know if you spot one.

E231 (manifest/autoracks Toronto-Flat Rock)
E232 (manifest/autoracks Buffalo-Flat Rock)
E271 (manifest/autoracks Montreal-Flat Rock)
E273 (manifest/autoracks Sarnia-Flat Rock)
L277 (mixed freight Sarnia-Flat Rock)
E280 (manifest/autoracks Chicago area-Flat Rock)
All of these run as needed. 280, 277, 271 are the more common symbols for the empty autorack trains to Flat Rock.

370 and 386, 387 and 456, 491 are long gone.

371 is the old 451.

501 runs out of Sarnia and west on the Flint Sub.

513 works around Pontiac in the evening / night. Runs south to Moterm as needed. Frequently lately.

524 used to be the Port Huron local that went south to Mt Clemens or East Yard as needed. Now 533 and 515 handle that work.

The Sand Trains are infrequent but run as needed.

574 could be the proper symbol for what was known as 102 and 202, day / evening shift local Flat Rock to South Yard in Ecorse.

Ethanol trains could run, Grain as well.

B20 typically works around Monroe, but could run to Toledo or Oakwood if needed.

The Northbound empty autorack trains for Conrail or Oakwood are symboled by whatever NS feels like calling it that day. 25E runs to Wayne, 29E typically usually has a CSX engine; being interchanged from CSX. Any empty autorack train can run to Oakwood, North Yard, Mound, or Sterling.

S756 sand trains are very sporadic. Sand cars typically move to Lang Yard on L502, and empties return on M391.

29E has been gone for awhile now.

Further to the above, E271 is an empty rack repositioning train that operates system wide. You see many in Michigan, mostly MTC sub (Toronto - Flat Rock), but I caught one in Calgary, AB, back in November.
L524 still operates on the MTC sub when Mount Clemens (FCA/Metro/B&D/Carter) need switching and it does not fall into the schedule of L533.

No M387, but M386 operates very sporadically. Saw one in late January...

Thanks for the updates. Used to be a bunch of us at Wyandotte in the summer. Not so much anymore. I moved out of the area.
