Y297 Keeps Stopping!!

Unread post by kd_1014 »

Does anyone know why Y297 randomly parks it's train and stops for like 30 minutes? For the past 3 times I've seen 297, it's stopped at Bridge Street, just south of the Fuller signal (Even though it was lined into the industry track), and at Leonard Street. It totally stops and turns off all of its lights and waits for about 30 minutes then starts off again, even though it is lined across the diamond at Fuller and into the siding. Anyone know why?

Could be, they are only 15 minutes into the job and out of the yard though

They do a lot more than just go up to Fuller. Y297 will often switch a few tracks in the yard before building their train, air testing it, and shoving out at Lamar. Then they will work Wolverine Scrap Metal and Wyoming Warehouse on the Service Track plus Columbian and Michigan Natural Storage on the City Market Branch before heading out of the yard. Throw in having to switch Padnos on Front St and often times the crew has been on duty for 5 or 6 hours by the time they get up to Fuller.

Good to know. I was at Fuller last night and they parked a few hundred feet south of the bridge over Indian Creek, even though they were lined in the siding AND they had a Diverging Approach signal into that industrial track. Maybe they stopped for a break?

Who knows, I wouldn't worry about it.

Sounds like they were stopped at the switch for the GRE, perhaps the conductor was trying to figure out what GRE work he would have to do.

Also the signal they get into the run-around at Fuller is a restricting. Look up CSX Rules C1280-C1298 for the Signal Rules on the CSX at Fuller.

FWIW, elsewhere around GR the rules are 1280-1298.

That is also a very distinct possibility, the crew might be looking to see what order the pick ups at the GRE are in so they can plan their night accordingly.
