Battle Creek trains

Unread post by conrail7695 »

With all of the resent talk on the board about Battle creek, besides Amtrak and CN. How many NS trains either manifest or local switch go threw BC?

NS has their Battle Creek job that works industries around town and between BC and Kalamazoo. That job will also run to Kalamazoo a few days a week, usually in the mornings, to interchange with Grand Elk. Only other NS train you might see is the night job from Jackson that runs to Kalamazoo and back.

I honestly do not understand all of the resent talk. The closure of the Treehouse Foods (Ralston) plant has been sealed for a few years now (not a surprise at all).
Cereal sales are in a slump, and the former Ralston plant is old, small, and slightly outdated.
Not every industry in Battle Creek uses rail service. Heck, the largest employer in town, Denso, is not even close to a rail line.

As for NS, it is almost a guarantee to see them head to Kalamazoo at around noon in downtown BC on Mon. and Wed.

Current Battle Creek Customers:
Kellogg's
ADM Sweetner Terminal
Post
Graphic Packaging
Treehouse Foods (not for long)
WestRock
ReConserve

Total: 7 customers

In BC's defense, Kalamazoo has 8 customers (9 if you include Portage).

NS typically follows behind Amtrak at around 1230-1 in the afternoon. The night train is usually around 0030-0100 through Augusta.

You missed 2 customers in Battle Creek.

Kalamazoo has 11 customers, soon to be 12 customers. If you count all of LC Howard's active sites that number goes up to 16 customers & if you add in Portage that goes to 17 customers.
