Storm Precautions

Unread post by Super Chief »

Last night CN dispatchers had mandatory high wind restrictions in place on the railroad as the big storm in Chicago was moving east. Their was a sit-in-place order on a windmill train at Olivers in South Bend which was a westbound, also 2 trains out on the main eastbound. A train at Waklee also had to stop because of sparks underneath the train reported. It was 168 intermodal which had to be walked during the storm. Car was 12th from the rear that had the problem so needless to say conductor had to be soaked after the back and forth trip along the train in the eye of the storm as it passed through. Also a train at Penn holding there for 168 in front of him. Just shows what railroaders have to endure during storm events. Storm did peter out over Michigan so high wind order was cancelled.

Any smart conductor reads and watches the weather forecast and brings rain gear...or some get caught from time to time. Then you grab a trash bag out of the crew pac and cut holes in it for your arms and head and walk on down da line! I've done both from time to time.
Curb Your Enthusiasm.
